Hi Everyone,

I was off the grid for many years due to my husband’s health problems. Sadly He has passed few months ago. My question is should I report his death to our timeshare company /wyndham?
Will it make a difference if I just ignore it.
Thank you for any helpful input.

Sorry for your loss.

You don't need to report it or to take him off the account. It's helpful to have the extra name on the account when you're holding reservations for family or friends to go too. Or when you're holding multiple reservations trying to piece together stays.

A widowed friend left her husband on their account and lists him as also staying in the units when she travels. That way she doesn't look like a female in the senior age group staying by herself.

Another thing she does when she wants a move over night that means an over lapping stay. Meaning she doesn't need to be out of the unit she's in by 10am or have to rely on getting a late check out time when her next stay is only a short drive time away or she's just moving to a different unit. As soon as she checks out, at her convenience, she changes the name on her next reservation from his name to hers.

We've done an overlapping night like that but there's two of us. It makes the move to a different unit or resort that's only a couple hours away much easier.

Sorry for your loss. I'd leave his name on for the all reasons already mentioned. No reason to hassle with changing it since there's no advantage.

The other benefit not mentioned so far is that you can use that shut down pushy sales reps.

"Sorry, my husband isn't with me to attend"

Hi Jan
Thank you for the information. Can you explain to me about the overlapping night ? Does it mean you must have 2 reservations on the same day at the end of one reservation and at the beginning of the second one ? What is under circumstances that makes us to have overlapping reservations.
Thank again

Hi,
Thank you. That will be a good idea to keep the salesperson off your back

How is the property deeded? I assume it was in both of your names? If so, I agree with all the posts above.

Yes it’s under both of our names. I wonder what will happen if I decide to sell in the future

Keep the death certificate in a secure place. You'll need it.

What Jan is suggesting: Let's say you are staying at a resort for 2 weeks, but they did not have a continuous unit for you and you have to change units. You are able to book a room in your name from Aug 5-10 in a 1br and in your husbands name from Aug 9-17 in a 1dx. They overlap a night so that you are not homeless between 10am and 4pm. Then when you check out of the 1br at 4pm on the 9th, you change the name on the 1dx from your husbands name to your name... *****Except that no longer is allowed**** Wyndham locked out the ability to change the traveler name at midnight on the day of checkin. This still should work as I've not been to a resort in the last 2 years that did not allow me to check in for any owner on the account. The resorts seem to understand the limitations of the system.

I did this back in March when moving from Fairfield Glade to Smoky Mountains resort. The resorts are maybe 90 minutes apart. When I was ready to leave Fairfiekd Glade after lunch I checked out with the front desk which ended that reservation. I didn't try to change the name on the Smoky Mountains resort online but called in to have the rep do it. It wasn't a problem and made my day and the move so much easier.

When you decide to sell your Worldmark membership, all owners will have to sign. To me, it makes sense to just get it over with and disclose the death.

One advantage of not reporting his death, is if your use involves making reservations in both of your names, to reserve units in the same week, to avoid using guest certificates. We do this when taking family members so we can have multiple reservations. The problem might be they want to see his identification because his name is on the reservation.

If a family member is in line to take over , then you could add that family members name and remove your husbands, and still make two reservations for one week.

If you plan on selling or giving the membership away anytime soon, I think it's better to get the ducks in a row and report the death. You can always use guest certificates for your family members or friends.

Best wishes for you on your travel plans.

Bill

When my mom passed away, my dad didn’t change anything with his various TS. When he decided to distribute them to us, his children, he submitted my mom’s death certificate to the title company, and her name was removed as part of the procedure to retitle everything.

Several years before that, when Marriott created their trust, he sold his Marriott weeks back to them. I assume he submitted my mother’s death certificate at that time, but I wasn’t directly involved.

Hi Bill
I think I’ll not change anything for now. I have so many tasks to finish. I will wait until I ’m ready to pursue or sell then. Thank you

I’ll keep his name until I’m ready to move on. We don’t have children just relatives and I don’t think they can afford the annual fee. Thank you for your input

Won’t be a big deal.

Yeah, given that the OP is on the deed, doesn’t matter a whole lot one way or the other.

Sorry for your loss, nice to see you back on TUG!

Be careful with this, you cannot change the traveller online anymore within 24 hours (maybe even 48 hours) of travel. This was I was told done to combat renters trying to skirt the owner priority restrictions.

I have done this in the past too, most of the times it's not an issue because me and the wife are on the contract and most of the time we are both present, but there was a last minute change recently at Ocean Walk in Daytona where the reservation was in my name, and I ended up having to stay because of work last minute and I had to get owner care involved to even get my wife to be able to check in.

What you said used to work, but doesn't anymore because of those changes.

I was able to switch in the app to another owner less than 2 weeks ago the day before check-in (more than 24 hours but less than 48). I was pleasantly surprised it worked (but no biggie if it hadn’t, as it was just due to parking logistics).

Its my understanding that only applies to changing the name from an owner to a guest name. Also that isn't a recent restriction.

@paxsarah posted she was able to change the owner name in the app just two weeks ago less than 48 hours before the check in date. I did it in mid-March the day of over the phone. I didn't try to do it online first because I had a question about something else I wanted to ask.

Unfortunately this is probably one of those "supposed" rules that changes depending on who in Wyndham you're talking to.

I think it’s a programming issue. On the app you can change up until noon or so, maybe noon Eastern time, on the website it’s midnight the night before. Or vice versa, I can’t remember for sure which is which. You can call and Owner Care will do it for you. So there’s no rule against doing it, just a programming issue. Introduced several months ago now.

There are their timing issues as well. For example, I live in central time zone and I can’t do bonus time until 1 AM my time. I bet you those back east can do it at midnight. And we’ve discussed before, and not pinned down, what time or time zone is used for things like last time to add on a day or last time for an automatic upgrade.

Enforcing the owner priority rules seems solid to me, programmatically. I don’t think this program issue with making a last day or so change is related to that.
