Sheraton Buganvilias Unit Upgrades

Has anyone gone to a Sheraton Buganvilias update recently? We went this week to find out that the company is upgrading the interior of their units and with that if we stay with what we have, our reservations in the future will be lower floors and no views. It ends up to be either about $27K to upgrade to their high end unit or $10K to have a smaller, but view and upgraded unit. We enjoy our stays in Puerto Vallarta and this has put a wet blanket on our future years of our timeshare contract. We're feeling trapped in a situation that isn't as easy as previous timeshare presentations...no thank you, we don't want more weeks or a bigger unit...we just want what we bought.

Scare tactics are a common sales technique. Call their bluff.

The sale pitch is a lie.

Few Mexican timeshares have any value. Check eBay for completed auctions. So unless your unit is the exception (after doing research), giving them an additional $10K or $27K is throwing good money after bad.

This doesn't mean that you won't continue to have great vacations there; it just means that the economics are not as presented to you..

Here would be my answer:

"If what you are saying WERE true, and you WERE planning to render worthless the contract I paid thousands of dollars for, why would I trust that I won't pay you thousands of dollars more just to have you screw me again?"

Also - not part of VSE/VSN, unless I missed it?
Is this remodel a transition to VSE as as part of their buildout into PV, or is that another?

If it is I missed that as well. I thought they were converting Westins in Mexico (Cabo, PVR, and CUN) to Timeshares. Sheratons in the US (Poipu and Steamboat).

This is actually Buganvilias Vacation Club. I believe it just happens to be co-located with the Sheraton Buganvilias Hotel which is now managed by Marriott International. No relationship with Vistana Signature Experiences. I think that Vistana took on ownership of the Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta, not the Sheraton property. Correct me if I am wrong?

I am an owner at Sheraton Buganvilias since 2007. I bought a Presidential suite. The hotel has remodeled every floor except one. The plan is to eliminate the Presidential suite which are becoming Ambassadors. The timeshare sales office is telling me that we will no longer be able to use the units we bought for the same price. However we do have a contract. Has anyone challenged this? I went back to check how much I paid for this week and saw that I paid 1 1/2 maintenance fees. Any suggestions?

Heading down to Buganvilias right now, coincidentally. My understanding is that they will keep one floor of those units until all the contracts are upgraded or expire. Look at your contract and see when that happens; they’re all RTU and had a max length of 30 years.

This thread would be better in the Mexico timesharing forum as it has nothing to do with Vistana. @dioxide45 was correct when he posted that in 2017. @Moxie847, you can find much more info about Buganvilias in that forum.

There's a lot more than 1 floor they haven't remodeled. Unless you're referring to a specific building perhaps?

None of the units that face the pool in building C? (or is it D, I gotta look at the map again) have been remodeled. The ones that face the "inside" and ocean are a diff. story. I feel bad for the older people that stay there since it's not easy to climb in and out of the that tub with the leaky shower doors, not to mention the moldy AC units.
When we were there this last December they would only give upgraded rooms if you attended the timeshare presentation (this was via an SFX bonus week).

You've got that right about the climb into those tubs and the leaky shower doors. They are terrible.

We wound up getting an Ambassador suite on 23 in A for an RCI 1 BR exchange the week following our Presidential Sky Suite. Tons of whales cavorting directly off the resort this week.

I only have 2 more uses on my Imperial Sky Suite. When we bought in the fall of 2011, they were just starting to sell them and we were able to choose our unit and week We were able stay there for the first time in November 2012. We had a separate page full of amenities that fizzled out after a few years, but still have the fixed week and unit that we wanted. I can get a nice 2-bedroom for a bonus week that is generally oceanfront to extend my stay. I decline the update/sales pitch. I am not investing in any more timeshares! I love the size and location of the Buganvilias, but I have 3-5 weeks in other timeshares in Mexico to stay in for the next 8 years.

I think the original poster is talking about the tower. Not the other lower buildings. There are only a few floors left to upgrade. The contract says nothing about anything. They said from the start that if you didn’t upgrade you could stay on the ground floor. There are only ten units there. I ended up this year in building D because I did want to pay the 500 dollars US upcharge. I had a 1 bedroom suite, which in itself wasn’t bad, but it had only one bathroom, unlike the Presidentials. In that building only a few units have balconies. And the. view is of the public beach and an empty lot with sheep grazing.

Don't forget about the chickens and the goats. LOL! (this one chicken kept getting out of the gated fence and would cross the sidewalk and think about crossing the road and then it would hurry back behind the fence again). haha

Most of them are sheep rather than goats. Tails up = goats; tails down = sheep. Haven’t seen a goat in there in a while.

I just notice "critters" there from the side of my balcony looking down. Whatever they are, they are eating the grass so that it is not overgrown. They did not seem to be fuzzy enough to be sheep in late November, but I am a city gal, so what do I know! :) Years ago when the house was there we just saw goats when we walked to town.

There were two cute little ones, looked like twins black and white hair/fur, that we saw with the pack this past January.
