I just purchased and installed the Roku a couple of weeks ago. The Netflix streaming is great. I have also played around with Picassa and a few other apps. I am having trouble looking at friends photos on facebook. Any other Roku users out there and what other apps (channels) do you like other than Netflix?

I am loving the streaming video from NetFlix. First I bought a Roku, then I got a new Samsung BluRay that had NetFlix built in WiFi, then I found out my Wii would also support NetFlix. You can download a file from the Wii shopping channel to load into your Wii for free. I am looking forward to the Hulu channel they say is coming soon!

Did you know you can make someone your Netflix friend and then you can share your queue with them that way?

We've been getting Netflix on the Wii and we loooove it. I got a Roku for our upstairs TV and just set it up last night. I'm not really getting Amazon Unboxed--it seems so expensive compared to Netflix! Of course Amazon has new movies and there's no waiting, and you can also get TV shows, but a $5 movie is at the low end for them.

I'm looking forward to watching Hulu on TV, too!

I'm confused by the Hulu references.

Isn't it possible now to get Hulu Plus (approx $10/mth) throuh Netflix.

Are the references to this or something else.?

We're cheap! We want FREE Hulu!

Seriously, you're right, it's there--although my brand-new Roku, during setup last night, told me that Hulu Plus was not available yet. I can go mess with it, and I'm sure if I paid the $10 per month, Hulu Plus would magically be available.

Still, Hulu Plus is new and costs $10 per month. Rumor has it that they're thinking about lowering it to $5 per month.

We've been streaming Netflix on our BluRay for about one year, and still love it. I don't have a list as long as Conans:) . But we watch a couple movies per week.

Anyone buy the new Roku box listed on the Netflix envelopes that cost $59.99? I am tempted to get one for another room in the house.

We also stream Pandora music on the BluRay, not sure if Roku has this capability. If it does, I highly recommend it. We pick a song we like, Pandora builds a music list around it, and then we stream the music through the home theater system(also have wireless speakers for outside during the summer). Especially good if you plan a themed party....Caribbean, Lounge music, 80's, etc.

We also noticed that our account allows our college son living 100 miles away to access the streamed movies using his Playstation 3, just as easily as if he was upstairs in his room.

Yes, there's a Pandora channel available (free) on the Roku

Can you take to ROKU on vacation?

Has anyone taken their ROKU on vacation and used at a TS?

Little late in answering, sorry.

I do not get it on my Roku because I am not going to pay for something I would not use.

It is available if I wanted it however.

I did misspeak somewhat previously in saying it was available through Netflix. It is available on the Roku, not sure of payment arrangements.

Nobody with AppleTV??

I got the Apple TV for the bedroom TV and enjoy it, but don't have anything to compare it to. Simple to set uo using HDMI cables, and it gives access to iTunes, Flickr, other computers in the house on WIFI when they have iTunes on, utube, podcasts, moblileMe, radio...and, of course Netflix for $8 a month unlimited viewing (but all are old movies or ones that didn't do well). I watched Black Stallion (Mickey Rooney) today...it was done in 1979 but new to me...gave it a 5 star rating.

Not quite sure if I'll keep Netflix as it's new to Canada and there are newer movies in HD on my cable provider movie channels. Netflix isn't HD in Canada yet except if you connect with the Sony game, but the movies are not that great -- at least right now. My stock purchase of Netflix 2 years ago has done rather well though. :)

iTunes music in Canada is $1.29 per song! IronMan 2 rents for $5.99 + 13% taxes. I think all the streaming services are having difficulty with Canadian copyright laws, affecting the availability on the newer stuff.

Just ordered the ROKU!

OK I got myself an early holiday present.

Got the ROKU and just got off the phone with Verizon and ditched the HBO!

That will save me about $20 per month.

I have heard that alot of folks have been slowly ditching their cable service. I would like to be in that club! My only hurdle is convincing the wife and son.

Please help me. Will they love the new ROKU so much to justify ditching my Verizon TV?

I would gladly get the additional ROKU boxes to ditch the cable!

What's the Differences?

Curious about Roku, so I went to Amazon and saw a bunch of them. What's the differences between the models?

We dropped down to a 'basic television' package (~7 channels, mostly local broadcasting) about a year ago. While we miss HGTV, Discovery, History -- we can pick up individual shows/seasons via iTunes. The biggest hardship was losing ESPN, specifically Monday Night Football. Our best live-sports solution thus far is http://www.fromsport.com even if some game narration is not in English.

Netflix price increase soon.

Along a similar line, we just got notice that Netflix price is going up $1.00 a month for those mailing DVDs. No price change for streaming. While a buck isn't necessarily a deal breaker, I will examine our queues- both streaming and DVD and see if I can migrate to entirely streaming. I know that not everything available on DVD is available to be streamed, but more is available all the time.

If you have one DVD at a time, the price is going up--but if you go to all streaming, the price is going DOWN, from $9 a month to $8 a month.

Conan,

Are those movies free? Or is there a fee for each movie?

Thanks

Not Conan, but Netflix is pay-one-price for the month. For example, I pay $9 a month. For my $9, with my home wireless network, I can watch all the streaming video I can stand, on any TV with a Netflix-ready device, and also on any computer. Plus I can have one DVD at a time through their mail program.

I have almost 500 movies on my streaming-only queue, and about 300 on my DVD queue. Some things are only available as DVDs. Others are available as both DVDs and streaming.

You can pay slightly more per month and have more than one DVD out at a time.
