Hi
I was checking to see if anyone had the name and or names of the best bldgs and rooms to request for a reservation at Barony?

There was a post but I couldn't find it.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks

This is the Barony Beach resort map. The oceanfront units are those in Sea Oat and Morning Glory that directly face the ocean; the oceanside units are the remaining units in those two buildings as well as all of the units in Live Oak and Bayberry; the gardenside units are all of the units in the two buildings, Gardenia and Jasmine, set back behind the Westin resort next door. All oceanfront units have a full-on view of the ocean but from the lower floors it may be partially obstructed by trees/shrubs. The oceanside units closest to the ocean on the higher floors in Sea Oat and Morning Glory have a very nice side view of the ocean. Lower or further back oceanside units vary between slivers and no views of the ocean. Gardenside units don't have a view of the ocean at all.

Live Oak and Bayberry have the best access to the quiet outdoor pool and the Beach Club building that houses the reception desk, the Marketplace, the indoor pool and the Activity Rooms. (The onsite spa is also in this building but I don't know if they've gotten a new tenant in yet.) Sea Oat and Morning Glory have the closest access to the beachfront pool and All Y'Alls Bar/Grille. The pool between the gardenside buildings has been re-furbed and it's now one of the most extensive in the Marriott system - zero entry, children's area, sand area, slide, showers, etc. If I were taking kids to Barony I'd actually prefer to be placed in gardenside just for that pool.

As an OF Owner I limit my requests to "high floor" (which they consider floors 3-5) with no preference for a particular building. They'll honor requests from Owners as much as they can BUT during the highest-demand periods they rotate Owner placement so that every Owner gets their fair chance in both the "best" and "worst" of the owned unit type.

The unit type on an II exchange confirmation isn't honored at Barony Beach. After Owners are placed, DC Points users and cash guests are placed (because they reserve/pay for a certain view type.) Then exchangers are placed beginning with the empty gardenside units first until all of those are filled, then oceanside, then oceanfront. But exceptions happen often enough that it's worth mentioning your preference in the pre-arrival emails. We love Barony and would happily stay in any unit on an exchange but if your happiness rests on whether or not you can see the ocean, it's probably best to prepare for some disappointment.

Just as a data point, we just exchanged into Barony over Spring Break. Got the email with the disclaimer about exchangers going into Gardenside. Did call and put in a request: High Floor, and if available, as close the beach as possible. Checked in and they placed us in 4th floor oceanfront. (Full disclosure, the Marriott confirmation number did show as oceanfront, so not sure how much that was a factor as well). Bottomline, doesn't hurt to ask for what you want, you may get lucky.

Susan--side note: there was no new spa tenant when we were there last month, and sounds like they don't expect one in the near future.

Congratulations on your placement, and during Spring Break! We were there in Feb. on an AC , so figured we would get Garden View. They put us in Morning Glory with a great ocean view! We even received a surprise bottle of wine with a card signed by all the staff when they found out I was celebrating my retirement! We have had nothing but good experiences there everytime. Thinking of trying Surfwatch this next Feb., but know there will be no views there. We've only stayed there for a few nights once and know the rooms are very nicely redone, but far from the beach.

Depending on who your cell phone provider is - I have had terrible coverage with AT&T (iPhone) in Live Oak and Sea Oat.

I generally request Bayberry or Morning Glory where my phone works fine.

Our cell phone worked fine in Morning Glory, but it was horrible in the ocean front building at SurfWatch.
