b/c of the bonus points they will deposit after my first purchase. Now, my husband and I have an existing Marriott Rewards account but it only reflects my husband's name on it (don't know why). When I applied for the Visa last night, the application asked for your existing rewards number. I put my husband's in. Will the points I earn using the Visa (in my name) be combinable with the points in our existing rewards account (in my husband's name)? Will they automatically marry the two accounts since I put "his" rewards number on the application? I ask b/c I need to book a hotel stay but will only have enough points using both our accounts combined.

Marriott Rewards accounts are individual accounts. You can have one and your husband can have one, but you can't have a combined one. If you entered your husbands rewards number, then the points will get posted to his account.

Did you sign up for a joint credit card account? If so, there shouldnt' be any problems. If you signed up for the CC in only your name and then used your husbands rewards number, then there might be issues, though I don't know for sure.

Yes, I only applied in my name. I would have made him a 2nd cardholder but I thought that may be a bad idea because what if Marriott says, hey the points cannot be combined. I wanted to leave the door open for my DH to apply for a card in his name and be considered a 1st time cardholder (only first ime card holders get the bonuses they are offering). I think I may have found a workaround just now on the website called transferring points http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/tranpurc.mi#transfer

I think there is a problem. Marriott Rewards will typically refuse to grant credit if the name on the Marriott Rewards account doesn't match the name on the charge (e.g., a stay in a hotel or the name on the credit card.), although some people here have reported at least occasional success in getting such credit

You should have your own Marriott Rewards number. You can get one in a few minutes at Marriott.com. Get a number, then call the credit card number and get the proper MR number associated with your credit card application.

There is no need for having a single Marriott Rewards account for the two of you, even if Marriott alowed it. When obtaining a Reward, you can have Marriott Rewards draw points from both accounts, as needed, for a single Reward.
