Is it possible to exchange a booking directly with Marriott or has to be via II: for the example I have week 35 booked in Marbella to use (29th Aug), I was thinking of trying to exchange for Playa. What are my options?!

Marriott does not have an internal weeks exchange.
They use II and have the priority period to help that process.

Others may have creative solutions for you.
Good luck.

If your Marbella week is enrolled, you can opt to convert to points and use the points to book at Playa. The only issue is that with skim, you are likely to get fewer points than what are need to book at Playa, assuming the rooms at each resort have the same point requirement.

And of course you have to elect for points before a deadline date and not make a booking with your week, if you choose not to go down the II route.

I think you've missed the cutoff for points even if that were an option otherwise. You could try to find an individual to trade with privately, go through II, try through an independent exchange company or rent out and rent something at Playa. It likely isn't worth joining II, paying the exchange fee and giving up priority for unit assignment at this point. But you could do a request first through II so you'd still have your current week if not successful. Why not try for both and go 2 weeks?

Well, not an answer to the Marbella question but the (in)famous "Florida Club" is basically an internal exchange.
