We arrived on a connecting flight about 1 1/2 hours early and found a veritable fiesta gathered at the boarding gate with hula contests, cookies baked in the pattern of pineapples with all the Hawaiian islands in frosting. The agents and crew were in Hawaiian shirts, and they gave us reusable tote bags and luggage tags for being on the inaugural flight. The plane was a 737-800, clean as a whistle. As we pushed back, the ground crew stood in line on each side all holding signs saying, likd, "Who's going to HAWAII?? YOU ARE!!" And similar, then they faced away and took selfies with the aircraft behind them.
The flight was just the basic Southwest flight, except Looong- 5 hours is a long flight in a narrow body plane. They gave you us snack packs with crackers, cheese, pretzels, tic-tacs, a moist towel and some cookies later in the flight. We brought sandwiches too.
The gate was the furthest from the terminal, and the bag carousel was also the furthest one. It's still Southwest.
We are here, and survived the test. Now for some serious relaxing!
