I'm "somewhat" intelligent but I just don't understand the business plan of Interval.
.....
I just don't understand why Interval thinks a Bonus Week is an attractive incentive????
My supposition about II's business plan in this regard is the following:
- They make fees (exchange, guest) on these trades which would otherwise go completely unused. Not a lot of money/trade but they give out a lot of them apparently.
- They are good for their resorts: they often charge resort or other fees (parking, occupancy) they have their restaurants and other services used during low seasons which generate revenue; they keep their staff busy and making tips, and most importantly they give the resorts "fodder" for their sales department. The aggressiveness of the pitches vary but we are always strongly offered one, which is fine. We know how to politely say no.
- Most people love getting things for free. It creates loyalty and for those of us who use them, incentive to be on their website etc. II does't expect anything in return. As the OP said they just show up and are very easy to ignore if you don't care about they or they are never in areas you want to visit.
As to why Marriott acquired II, it seems they want to just buy all the revenue competition or have more offerings for points?
