I did something that everyone tells you not to do. I don’t have Marriott deeded weeks anymore. I converted them to points for a HUGE price.

Depending on what weeks you owned, you could save some on maintenance fees.

I’m not sure why I did it because everyone says — don’t get rid of your deeded weeks.

Depending on what you did and when you did it you may be able to rescind.
Of course you may or may not want to
So far it is kind of hard to know if you are "braggin or complainin"

I actually lean the other way. We've done deeded weeks before and I'll never do it again. Schedules can change and make it impossible to use those specific weeks so I can't say I would ever go down that route again.

I prefer having the flexibility of points to book a certain amount of days at whatever location I may fancy during different timeframes but to each his own as lots of owners here seem to prefer having weeks instead.

What does HUGE price mean and what did you convert and what will be your MF's per point? Details please.

I think you are having second thoughts and that is why you posted.

Points in Marriott? Destination Club Points, AKA Abound? What name will they think of next?

Did you trade in your weeks and buy points or did you just pay to enroll the weeks you already had? Generally just points is a poor plan but having access to points in the right situation can be a great option.

Haha, I think this person is having a laugh at our expense. I don't think this is real.

I was wondering the same. Spoon feeding small bits of information without any details. I ain't buying it until more details are provided.

My first thought when I read this thread earlier was they just joined today, what an odd thing to post.

I have all MVC Destination points now and I’m happy. It cost a boatload of money but everything is streamlined and consolidated into our trust now.

As you know, Marriott doesn’t do any legal work for free. I bought some more points.

TUG is a site designed to help owners and prospective owners learn how to maximize ownership, among other things. It would be very helpful to those who read this thread if you would provide specifics regarding what you gave up (resort, unit size, season, Abound point value), how many points you bought and how much you paid for those points.

We have 3 deeded time shares in Hawaii left and we can use our points anytime of the year, to any destination available.

I gave up my Marriott deeded weeks at Ko Olina and Ocean Pointe for Destination points and then bought 3000 more points.

Little bits of info at a time without providing the cost. You spent a HUGE amount of money to buy points. Great for you! Whatever makes you happy. For me, absolutely will NOT do that.

Only my assessment --

Points system - It appears as a more streamlined and simple approach to timeshare with greater flexibility than weeks. However, from my experience with both weeks and points, the downsides have and are immense. First, there is no assurance that reliance on a total points system can deliver the reservations most of us want. The Trust suffers "very serious deficiencies" in providing access to reservations - not much is owned by the trust so week owners must give up reservations to satisfy point user needs. But, if one can live with scraps, off season reservations, lower demand locations and difficulty in getting reservations, it is probably the way to go.

I actually think the better approach is probably to hold onto your wallet and avoid a large up-front participation. Then, rent what you want, and rely on Interval for getaways, avoid maintenance fees entirely, and abandon timeshare later without any consequence.

I doubt that anyone can honestly say that reservations are easier to get now 15 years into the points program than before the Bonvoy program. The available resort options have been pretty stagnant over the past 15 years with no great outlook - lots of points sold but a lesser selection for participants. MVC has reduced the value of the portfolio's use and value.

What’s the per point cost that is being calculated now for maintenance fees? Is it like $.81 per?

Our weeks are enrolled in Abound, so we always have the flexibility of using them as weeks or as points (or as a combination of both)
And the MF for every single week, per elected point equivalent, is less in some cases much less than the Abound MF for points.

I suspect you are one of the winners like us who owned weeks before the points program and merely enrolled our weeks to enable exchange into points. Legacy owners retain the advantage of the lowest maintenance fees per point as we pay MF's for our owned week rather than for the number of points we have. We are advantaged.
