Chase Sapphire Reserve is changing... Alternative cards with high points for MVC maintenance fee payments?

*Canceled my Chase Edit bookings.... Not worth spending more good money for the coupon in my use case...
(HGVC owner bookings esp with their BF pricing is insanely good for Vegas & painful to spend more for a small hotel room via Edit (+ junk resort fees + parking fees etc)...
TY!

If you can find something worth booking in Vegas which doesn't charge junk "resort fees" etc., BOOK IT. Vegas has gone from being a very attractive and affordable destination to being outrageously expensive. The mandatory resort fees, in particular, deter me, since they either cover benefits I'd already get for free or benefits I don't want and won't use.

At least they have to include the fees in the price they quote now. I hope that rule doesn't get nerfed.

Parking fees not included in Chase Edit price quote & not included in resort fees, at Park MGM, although many with higher Marriott status would get free parking but yours truly's measly Platinum (via Brilliant amex) does not get anything

Parking fee isn't included in price quotes because not everyone needs parking. I haven't rented a car in Las Vegas in at least thirty years, it's just easier not to have one. I do miss the days when all parking – including the valet – was free everywhere there.

But the non-optional resort fees, "destination fees", etc. are now included in the total room price quoted online, which is far better than before, when they would hide them in the small print and then surprise you with them on arrival or (if you weren't paying attention) at check out. I wish they'd managed to make these kind of extra fees illegal or optional, but at least including them in quoted prices allows you to compare apples to apples.

Most places, parking is an optional fee, so it wouldn't be built into quoted prices.

Well, we met the $75,000 spend threshold for the Chase Sapphire Reserve a few days ago thanks to our Black Friday TV.

Today I ordered my Apple watch from the Shops at Chase. :)

I am going to cancel my The Edit New Years trip to Atlanta due to inability to find a pet sitter-- but we no longer have that strict need to get the 1st.2nd QTR credit ASAP, since we will be keeping the card for at least another year now. I have my eye on a weekend in March.

Totally understand....
Easy for us to drive up anytime (vs the hassles of going from my side of town to PHX, parking/uber etc + similar travel hassles at LAS; easier to drive up for us; 4h door-to-door, hence car comes with us)...
Pricing with Edit at ParkMGM wasn't bad; it is just that our pricing at HGVC for a much nicer room (1 BR or 2 BR, 2 BA condo) with free parking is so insanely low that it is still cheaper (& nicer, for our use case to just go the HGVC route)..
Respect it is different for others & happy it is working much better for all of you :)!
(Pointed out to a fam member who lives in NYC & YUL, that he can use his Edit credit at Fairmont Quebec City for a nice stay at a nice property cheaply with Edit)...

My understanding of The Edit credit is that it's all about when you BOOK the reservation, so if you book the reservation during Q3/Q4, then you will be eligible for the July-December $250 credit. If you book the reservation Q1/Q2, then you get the Jan-Jun $250 credit. I guess you CAN cancel a reservation and then they'll claw back the $250 credit if you received it.

So if you booked a New Years stay, you probably got the 2H2025 credit for that, and they'll probably charge it back to you if you cancel the stay.

At least that's my understanding!

I'm kind of shocked that ParkMGM is a "The Edit" property. It's an okay property but I wouldn't put it at the level of most of the other The Edit properties. Anyway, that's good to know, because it's also often pretty reasonably priced.

Yes I got the credit when I booked the reservation.

Yes the reservation is cancellable.

Yes I assume the credit will be clawed back.

Yes within minutes of cancelling the current reservation, I will book another stay before the end of the year and thereby get the credit reissued before the end of the year.

I’m not trying to be pedantic, but just in case you or anyone doesn’t know, you could book a stay in 2026 and use the 2H2025 credit, so long as the payment transaction posts in 2025. So the stay doesn’t need to be this year, it just needs to be booked and paid for this year.

Looks like a joint venture or marketing arrangement with WorldMark.
Indeed. It's actually Travel + Leisure, formerly Wyndham Destinations. Looks similar to the Margaritaville branded Club Wyndham resorts.

Yes- earlier in this thread I explained that my annual fee is paid in Feb. My plan was to get one $250 rebate before Dec 31 and one after Jan 1 and then cancel the card. Now I am not going to cancel the card this year. I still would like to get the $250 rebate prior to Dec 31, but I do not need to stay somewhere right away to obtain the second rebate between Jan 1 and Feb 6. I have time for the second one. I also stated earlier in this thread that I had received the $250 rebate already (in Q4 2025)- so obviously I understand that I get the $250 credit when I book that stay, even if the stay is in not in the same quarter (the rebate I already received was for my planned "New Year's trip"- ie in Q1 2026)

I am not sure what my response is supposed to be on TUG when someone tells me something that I did not ask for advice about and that I already know, other than to confirm that I already know those things. I am not sure what even made you think that I thought the stay needed to be in 2025-unless you assumed a New Years stay was a New Year's Eve stay.

So I get it you were trying to maybe make a PSA type post- I dunno, maybe just state it that way rather than trying to advise give someone advice about something they're not seeking advice about? I would not say you were being pedantic (your response was brief enough)- but you were assuming a lack of knowledge on my part and a superior level of knowledge on your part and I'm not sure where that came from.

Using the Dining credit: We’ve booked the Marine Room King Tide Brunch in San Diego in early January. They’re expecting a king tide so from what I’ve heard it’s pretty neat to be inside and see the waves crashing on the windows.

I apologize if I offended you. Lots of people are reading these posts and I thought I was pointing out something that might not be obvious to everyone. It was not initially obvious to me. I even thought I took care to say that you, specifically, might already know that.

Rather than berate someone for trying to add to the discussion, I'd go back to the old advice that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I finally sat down and looked at the new benefits (and enrolled in them) v.s. the increase in the price of the card. We certainly won't use all of the benefit items but I calculated with the ones we will use we will come out ahead by $676 for the year. That doesn't even take into account the points that we use for hotels, airline miles, etc. a great deal as we travel. Big ones for us are the $300 travel credit, Apple music and Apple TV (was paying for them already), probably 5 Lyft rides per year, the exclusive tables and two bonuses for spending over $70K on the card most years: $250 credit at The Chase shops and $500 credit back from Southwest booked via Chase. Everyone needs to sit down and do their accounting in my opinion. That didn't stop me from calling and asking for a reduced cost of the card based upon using the card for eight years and putting just about everything on that card. I didn't get anywhere with that but I'm OK with the higher fee after doing my accounting.

Were you paying for both of those without paying for Apple One?

My gripe is that that specific benefit is useless because most who do get those would just get Apple One (more stuff for less). Of course Chase doesn't cover Apple One...

*Chase Sapphire lounge OPEN at LAS!

Tiny at 4500 sq ft, similar to the tiny PHX lounge... max capacity only 87...
Cap 1 lounge LAS is larger & nicer at 8200 sq ft..
Centurion is 13,400 sq ft...
All are crowded, always..

'The new Chase Sapphire Lounge is located post security at LAS in Terminal 1, Concourse C in between gates 23 and 24. It's open daily from 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
This places Chase's latest lounge in the same terminal where you will commonly find airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Allegiant Air and Spirit Airlines. And, notably, it's in a different part of the airport than both the Capital One Lounge that opened in early 2025 and the American Express Centurion Lounge, both of which sit near the D gates and are a short train ride away from the location of the new Sapphire Lounge'.

Ok, if you think I was berating you, so be it. I apologize if you were offended.

I thought I was actually being kind of nice when I reassured you that you weren’t being pedantic.

An example, perhaps on both sides, of how it's easy to misread tone and intent in emails/messages. I apologize if I did so. Now we can sing Kumbaya and go back to being friendly, if we ever stopped. Thanks for clarifying. I promise that I try very hard, in life, not to be a jerk, and hope I was not behaving as one.

That's what I'd have expected to happen, you can't game the system by booking and cancelling.

No intent of 'gaming the system'.
I made the Edit reservation to use the Edit coupon/credit but later canceled once HGVC's insane black Friday sale came up (& I could get a far nicer room for a fraction of the price & hence canceled Edit with no intent of keeping the credit).
Historically, Chase (& AmEx) gave credit when booking made & if things came up & folks had to cancel, they did not claw back the credit; now, they have changed it, and hence sharing the datapoint...
TY!
