I have had frequent bouts of plantar fasciitis in the past. 4 or 5 years ago I bought Oofos slides on the recommendation of a friend. I have not had PF since. That's good enough for me.
I've owned several. It's like walking on a cloud. So soft and great arch support. Never paid $100 tho. Close to $76. I broke 2 pairs of the flip flop style. Not great for walking on uneven ground with that style. I learned by mistake and went with the slide. Haven't broke them yet.
I am sure you spend stuff on things that other people would consider not worth it *cough timeshares*. Thus not sure why you are questioning the value of something else.
Wyndham; Disney OKW & SSR; Marriott's Willow Ridge, Shadow Ridge and Grand Chateau; Val Chatelle; Hono Koa OF (3); SBR(LOTS), SDO a few); WKORV-OFC-4 and Westin Desert Willow.
If only I could find a flip-flop that was comfortable enough, I would surely buy it. Sandals strangle the top of my foot, as do flip-flops.
My feet have a high instep (top of the foot is very high), requiring a wider shoe, but a wider shoe doesn't actually have a higher instep. Consequently, I cannot tie my shoes tightly at the tongue, there is a gap. This is how my feet are. Clunky and chunky, just like my grandma's. She used to tell me how sorry she was that I got her feet. Now I have a little granddaughter with the same feet. I hope her feet thin out, but I don't think they will.
I wear Good Feet insoles with Brooks running shoes. They worked great on the 800 foot incline hike we did 10 days ago on Maui at the Bamboo forest at the base of Haleakala. My feet were fine, my legs were like rubber getting out of the car after that hike.
A family member bought this brand of sandal at the recommendation of her podiatrist. Issues solved and avoided surgery. She swears by them now has added the slides and house shoes too. They've been promoted as a recovery shoe by several retired athletes.
I wear the Hoka's which are the same style and build. For me, they're definitely worth it. I wear men's size 12 wide and they're hard to find. The extra cushioning and support feel better than anything I've ever worn and they actually fit like they should. Otherwise, I have to buy a size larger than I need in order to get the width I need.
One of the two things I will never scrimp on is shoes. I've had enough foot issues in my life that it's worth it for me to spend what I need to get a shoe (or flip flop) that is comfortable.
I will say one of the longest lasting pair of flip flops I've had (and one of my favorites) was a cheap pair I got at Ron Jon's in Cocoa Beach, FL.

Right there with you. I wear my Brooks shoes to church, but not with a dress. I have sandals I wear with a dress. Even though the sandals (Clark's brand) are comfortable for an hour or two, they come off as soon as I am back in the car. I spend on shoes because foot problems are not fun.
The only thing I can think of is it's women's footwear and women will pay more if they want it. I've paid too much , in my mind anyway, for things like motorcycle boots, fishing boots, boot scooting boots and my Adidas Superstar but never more than $20 for flip flops, lol.
I wear the Olu Kai brand sandals, and I found them super comfortable. My feet are really jacked up, multiple surgeries, and orthotics for a long time. I will pay any price for shoes that don't leave me in pain.
I've had numerous foot surgeries and I can't wear most sandals that have a strap across the foot. I can always wear flip flops as they don't bump up against the toe on the right side. And plus, I'm a "California girl" who lived in flip flops most of the year.
I wear Birkenstocks. They are $140 a pair and worth every cent. Walking 25,000 steps around Disneyland all day and my feet still feel great at the end of the night.

We had a German aupair whose mother worked for Birkenstock. When the aupair's brother came to visit her he brought us all (family of 4) Birkenstocks. I wore those for years, but haven't had another pair since then.
I live in my Birkenstocks and have more pairs than I want to admit to. My feet love them. I’ve even learned how to re sole them when my cobbler retired.
