Stay at the Liberty Hotel now, then over to the common house. Overwhelming number of restaurants! Would appreciate recs for seafood near common house and maybe an Italian.
The liberty is a beautiful hotel in the luxury collection. Used to be a jail. But I am spoiled by MVC rooms. Can't watch TV while hubby sleeps!
Appreciate ideas.

You're not that far from the North end of Boston -- which means plenty of great Italian food restaurants.

As for seafood, go to Legal Seafood Restaurant near the Custom House, Aquarium, and Long Wharf (Marriott has a Hotel there). You can either walk there, Uber there, or take the MBTA and get off at the Aquarium Station on the Blue Line.

Don't forget to go into Marriott's Custom House while you're in the area. Originally built in 1847 with the tower added in 1914. A classic, impressive structure!

Enjoy your visit to Boston.

I said common house, but we are staying at Custom house, just mistyped.

There are so many Italian in North end, maybe they're all good, but bet there's some standout.

Haven't gone yet but we are going to try Mamma Maria in the north end.

Enjoying hot dogs at Fenway.

See the link to my Boston's North End restaurant list in Fasttr's post #3 above....(Thanks Todd)...... for goodness' sake, it's all there. Trust it.

Fine dining standouts are Mamma Maria, Lucca, Bricco, Limoncello, and more.
"North End" Italian restaurants are very numerous, mostly located along Hanover Street. Best pastry shops are there too.
In general, you can duck into any of the Italian spots and get an excellent meal.....if not, they'd be out of business quickly, but they all thrive.
All walkable, maybe from 10-15 minutes tops. We love walking to dinner from Custom House.....wonderful.

1. Take Cross Street (Atlantic Ave) LEFT up the hill to Hanover St,
or
2. Cut through Christopher Columbus Park (it's lovely) & cross the street and take Richmond Street up the hill to Hanover St.
Enjoy.

A favorite of mine is Chicken Milanese at Carmelina’s.
There is also a fish with a pistachio crust on the menu that was delicious.
The Alfredo is also a favorite in our family.

Good seats- Now we need some runs!

Our current favorite Boston seafood restaurant is Neptune Oyster in the North End. Sadly, 'No name' seafood is no more and Legal is but a pale shadow of its former self.

Just curious. Yesterday (Saturday), you said you were in the Liberty Hotel about to make the move to the Custom House. Yet, the Custom House check-in day (for timeshares anyway) is Friday (at least, as far as I know).

Are you just staying as a nightly hotel guest for a partial week? If so, were you able to get a decent nightly rate?

A local here recommended that who we met at dinner, so we're going tonight

I used points. Don't know worked out. 1 bedroom 2 nights, all that was available.

Go to the North End for great Italian, pretty much a 5 minute walk across the street from CH. We like Gianni"s, (no reservations and cash only) so be prepared to wait if you go there. Carmelina's and La Trattoria iL Panino are also good and all on Hanover. Just be sure to stop at Mike's, Modern or Bova's for pastries after dinner.
For good seafood close by we like Union Oyster House, Historic building with fresh fish, lobster etc.. The Seaport is also a short walk where you can fine Ocean Prime and Row 34 which are both great (and more upscale). For more casual seafood try the Barking Crab and James Hook for Lobster Rolls for Lunch.

If an owner at Custom House elects to trade a given year's usage for Abound Club Points, their Custom House usage that year becomes available to book by others using Club Points. Club Points bookings can be made for nightly increments, not just a week at a time, and therefore can check in any day of the week.

Thanks sponger. I've got no prior experience with that program, now want to get more information, but realize that the appropriate place to ask those additional questions would be another forum and not the OP's thread.

So, chunkygal, you're checking into the Custom House today. Enjoy!

Oh, and by the way, I've really liked Briccos (mentioned somewhere above) whenever I've gone there. When I happen to still be in Boston on Christmas day, a group of my friends all get together at that restaurant and we've had many an outstanding meal there.

But for more casual (and quick and inexpensive) dining, the North End's Pizzeria Regina and the food court at Faneuil Hall may be optimal if you're trying to fit in as many things as possible during your Boston trip.

Chart House, Provisions, Legal Seafood.... all at the Wharf, walking from Custom House. Also behind Custom House, great pub, I forget the name. Be there in July!!!

It is all people say! But sorry, no view from the balcony.;)

What bothers me about the Custom House is NOT that rooms don't have balconies (not at all surprising given its historical background as a building where import duties (i.e., "tariffs") were collected and inspectors' offices were...Boston Harbor was directly in front of the building at the time) but that "in and out" parking is $56 per day!!!! Drop your car off at the Wonderland T station at the very last stop of the Blue Line. I think it's $7 per day Mon thru Friday, and $2 for a weekend day. None of my relatives/friends who have driven to Boston have ever had a vandalism problem in that multi-story T parking garage. Of course, being street smart, you don't leave ANYTHING out in plain sight and lock your doors (which, of course, also applies to in and out parking at the Custom House).

Alternatively, just park on the street on the ocean side of Wonderland Station, making sure to take note of what day they might do a street cleaning between such and such hours.

And then hop on the Blue Line subway train and 15 minutes later you get off at Aquarium Station and stroll over to the Custom House.

This was taken in 1850 before they built the tower. Can you see the front of the docked boat/ship (I think that's called the prow) in the harbor?

can yu see the bow or prow.png
