We have interval reservations for both these resort in May 2023.

I need some insight from owners to decide which one to keep. We are from east coast and never been to either resort.

Any suggestion, comment, attractions nearby suggestion are highly appreciated.

Fees at FSA while none at Newport Coast.

If you are going to Disneyland, Newport Coast is about 35 minutes away. FSA is about double that.

If you aren't doing Disneyland, I would stay at FSA, but they are both extremely nice.

Can you visit both? If there's a small gap between the two reservations, maybe book a hotel or AirBnB for the day or two to bridge the two. This will be the basis to build a very nice SoCal vacation around !

I never stayed at FSA, but go to NCV a lot. Love the property and proximity to SoCal sites

I would do both if you can. Like others have said, they are different experiences. I own at FSA and I have been to Newport Coast too. There might be more to do in the San Diego area at least for my interests, but both are very nice. I can’t decide which one I like better.

FYI...May grey/June gloom season
That's the time of year that I like it, being a Coloradoan. We like the cooler temperatures and gray skies. Weather in July and August, even September, in Colorado can be brutally hot and dry.

These 2 reservations have overlap days, so we have to pick one over another or just let go these days. Does FSA have additional fees for no owner?

We stayed at FSA in May of this year and paid $33.66 per day. It was a change from prior stays where there was no resort charge. We love both FSA and NCV. They are different resorts, located near different things, just really depends on what you want to do.

NCV is just across the street from the ocean so many of the units have great ocean views and we take a 3 mile beach walk each day of our stay. FSA is much further from the ocean, but many units still have a view just not a huge ocean view like NCV.

We prefer NCV. As a walker I enjoy walking to Crystal Cove and strolling the paths in the park, Also the Beachcomber restaurant is excellent for a morning omelette and latte at The Cove. A shuttle runs to the beach every 20 minutes for beach people. Last month we had issues with our room but we were there on promotion for only 4 days; so not a big deal.

Resort fees would make FSA a bust for me.

My opinion is the opposite.
Four Seasons Aviara is awesome and miles above the Marriott.
The units are large. They are outfitted much better.
The area is great and it is on the Aviara golf course which gives the Timeshares access.
In addition the climate is even better and you are close to Del Mar, La Jolla and even San Diego.
There is a fabulous restaurant on site, and the grounds are fabulous.
No contest.

I agree that we prefer Four Seasons above Marriott, maybe not miles, but alot. I don't understand the statement of Aviara golf course giving timeshare access. You get a small discount for playing there and that's it. It is also very spendy. There are more inexpensive and good quality public golf courses in Carlsbad area compared to Newport Coast area. Public courses in Newport Coast area suck eggs.

It’s been some years since I’ve been to FSA, but I took my family there a few times and they thought it was the best timeshare they had ever visited…and they were not wrong. Newport is a typical Marriott in a nice location.

Aviara does not let the public play.
It costs 36k to be a member and than there are annual dues.
So you are getting access to a private club that also hosts an LPGA tour event.

They have a special for TS guests that you pay $300 for the first round and than less than half that every additional round.

I think that we should keep both reservations although there are a few days overlap based on opinions/ideas from TUG friends. We also booked 2 nights at Grand Hyatt Manchester in San Diego.

Any suggestion for out-of-path attractions and restaurants for both resorts stays.

Thank you.

I don't know when was the last time that you had played at Aviara.

Aviara absolutely allows public play. Here is a link for public to make a tee time. https://aviara.ezlinksgolf.com/index.html#/search It is $255 if you want to play in the morning next week.
They have a "special" for the number of rounds that you play per week. It was way too rich for our blood.

If you stay at the timeshare I was able to tee off with members starting at 7:30 am.
Those tee times are not available to the public.
The public has to tee off after al the members times are allotted.
It is a fantastic Arnold Palmer golf course that they just refurbished for over $8mm....the daily fee is a bargain.

There are numerous fantastic restaurants from Carlsbad down to Del Mar....

Just at random, I looked at Oct 18, public tee times are available at 7:34am (3 players), 8:17am (4 players), 8:25am (2 players) etc. There is nothing special about going off with members at 7:30am. It is not like a prestigious country club. Many of the public courses also sell memberships to get more money and play. If you thought your 7:30am tee time was special, it was not. We belong to a private (Nicklaus) country club, so being able to play at Aviara or not is no big deal.

It is possible that they are not very busy now and open up the tee times.
Regardless, the course is worth playing at any time, and it is very convenient being on the grounds.
Many times we have stayed at a unit with a golf course view.

We've stayed at FSA several times, twice in the last year, and golfed both of those times. Got a good rate because they were still working on major course renovations. We typically like to tee off early and get done early, but at the coast, going out later allows time for the fog to burn off. We found this out the hard way, missed seeing the first 3 holes. There are two very nice public courses only about 10 minutes away, The Crossings and Encinitas, both much more affordable. We also made the trip down to Torrey Pines, maybe only 30 minutes, they are beautiful courses there, but also along the coast and also fogged in pretty often.

And just FYI, if you're staying at NCV, of course Pelican Hill is a premier golf facility (i.e. expensive) with amazing views, but we really like Strawberry Farms, it's just 20 minutes over the hill.

We played at Strawberry Farms last year, and our friend and my husband both declared that the course was in such bad condition that they refuse to return to it again. I am easy peasy and will play almost any course, except Tijeras Creek, it was muddy marsh land on one of the holes when we played last year. That was our 3rd time trying Tijeras Creek and each time we were disappointed. We also played at Tustin Ranch and Arroyo Trabuco and decided that looking for inexpensive and good public course is a lost cause in Newport Coast area. I like The Crossings but because it is so spread out it takes way too long to play. I am spoilt and typically get the first tee time and finish a round in 2 hours 20 minutes as a twosome and under 3 hours as a foursome at our club. I play fast and cannot stand slow play. My husband and friend also declared that they would not go back to The Crossings because it took too long.

When I travel, I look for the best possible golf courses I can play.
In addition to Aviara, I played some private courses in the area that our club pro helped get me on.

I am an avid golfer and like courses that are in great shape, well designed and play quickly, which most private courses do.
I try to stay away from public courses, because all it takes is one slow group to slow down the entire course, and ruin the day for everyone.
I don't mind paying to play nice courses, as that is why I take vacations.

I am not looking to play golf courses that are inexpensive just to save money.
Pelican Hill at Newport is a top class golf course, and should be played if in the area.
