I am just curious? Is there anyone that exclusively uses a Debit Card?
Not looking for any background details. Just a simple yes or no.

Me I have both and prefer to pay my balance in full monthly.
Hardly ever use the Debit Card. Only when a merchant does not accept Credit Cards.

No, too much fraud risk when using a debit card these days. Credit cards or cash only - except for ATM usage obviously.

Me. I live on my money without needing to borrow. I used to do what you did, live a month in debt, but now I don't need to. I've never bought anything online (except travel bookings) either.

Also paying cash helps the small businesses I shop at by not paying the high cc transaction fees. Debit card merchant fees are also lower than cc.

Same as you. Pay balance monthly and only use debit card if no other option.

It's not a matter of having to be in debt. With so many transactions such as utilities, Amazon, eating out just pay the lump sum when due.
Just use your debit card then it saves you having to be in debt for a month and remembering to pay it off.

No
(always use CC, pay it off monthly and only use a debit card infrequently)

1. Put everything on the credit card.
2. Setup monthly automatic payment of credit card statement balance.
3. Done. No debt. No remembering.

I do that for my Costco card. I am a nitpicker and have to check every transaction. I should just do the auto pay for all. Still prefer the mailed statement.

You are in debt though, until you pay it off. Perhaps its become so common people don't realize they are in debt! Every time you use a credit card you are borrowing money and going into debt.

Plus the 3-5% merchant fees are going to the cc companies and robbing the businesses trying to survive.

Both. But there was a time when I had to rebuild my credit after a disability that I used debit exclusively. It worked.
When I had to rebuild, I deposited money into a secured credit card which I used to pay monthly expenses while the other credit cards were cancelled/defaulted (which stopped interest) and I could negotiate a payoff or address lawsuits by debt collectors.

I bought a prepaid legal package from work, so process servers knocking at the door did not send me into fits of panic.

If your credit score is in the toilet, you may want to consider a slash and burn approach to recover. YMMV.

I used to use just my debit card, but since getting some credit cards with cash back or airline miles, we converted to using credit cards most of the time. Since I am not using the debit card, the money is in the bank, so I do not feel like I am borrowing money.

We always pay the entire balance each month. I usually pay any CC bill right after the statement is available to download online.

Sometimes, when I make a large purchase for something, I will pay the CC off a few days after making the purchase from our saving account. This would be for things like travel reservations, timeshare MF, annual homeowners insurance or estimated taxes. I have the money available and do not have a debit card for savings. It is easier than writing a check and mailing it.

It works for us. :)

Yes, credit is rebuildable. My difficulty was decades ago. Well in the 800s now.

I'm the opposite. Credit card only. And just one.

I won't have a debit card. I'd shred it if my bank mailed me one.
A debit card is an express lane into your account. The money is removed immediately. If it has been done improperly, you have to beg to get it returned.

A credit card, they have to force me to pay.

Also, you never pay a debtor with a personal check as they could drain the account. Money Orders only.

Direct-deposit as well. A coworker at the Hyatt had her account siphoned thanks to a bank error and it took 18 months to get her money back.

I very, very rarely use my debit card.

I charge whatever I can charge to my card (get points). I don't wait for the bill to come in the mail. I check my cc on line daily (any fraudulent charges). I make a payment at least once a week (depending on how many times I charge in a week) and pay in full - sometimes even while it's still pending.

Unfortunately there are many direct bill payment type services which ask for banking information for direct debit. That is the risk that we have accepted in exchange for convenience.

My bank will write and send a check at no cost. In that case, I let them eat paper. I ALWAYS push, never allow a pull.

That’s a strange way to think of it. You are also in debt for your utility bills. You are using water, sewer and electricity and not paying for it as you go.

100% agree with this sentiment.

My solution is two banks. They're right next to each other, two miles from my farm. One bank is JUST for electronic transfers -- payments for coffee in, paying bills out. I leave enough money here to not be overdrawn, and no more than that. If someone siphons this account, my reaction would be "well, that's a bummer." If the balance grows to an amount I would be upset about losing, I transfer it to....

The real checking account. Since it's a small-town bank, I have my account flagged -- they won't honor any check written more than $999. If I need to buy anything which costs more than a thousand, I have to go to the bank in person and withdraw cash or have a cashier's check written. (Most people here don't want personal checks anyway. I've only been able to get one person to accept one in the time I've been here. Desperately needed a refrigerator RIGHT NOW. And a guy down the road was selling a dandy one for not much. "Buddy, you can walk to my house and beat the crap out of me if this check bounces.")

OMG, Patri! Now he’s going to have his utilities shut off! :D
