Tax on Accomodation Certificate???

I just reserved a week at Grande Ocean using an AC and my credit card was charged the $299 fee plus $20.93 tax. This is a first for me. Has anyone else run into this tax or is this just a local thing, as in Hilton Head? Just wondering. Linda

I don't know when it started, but I paid tax on an AC in Oct for St Johns VI and again in Dec for Hawaii. I think I paid 311.XX for each week so I think it might vary by location. I am not in a position to check right now but will check when I get home.

I was just going to post the same question. We just reserved a week in Orlando with an AC & was charged tax as well. When did this start?

I too just paid tax on an AC it was around $11.00 for a Hawaii week that starts Jan 20th. With the Guest Cert fee the week came to $350.00. Still not bad for a 2 bed Hawaii Marriott Ko'Olina week

Is it a sales tax? Who gets the tax?

I just looked up the receipt for our Orlando exchange. The tax was $37.38 on $299. So that's 12.5% tax. Wow. Where did that come from?

I used mine in Nov for a Manor club 2 bd, no tax. This is very odd, but sounds like a Resort tax. Might be something that certain locations have instituted as it sounds like it is not everywhere, and even the rates are different.

I just put an RCI Extra Vacation on hold and was shocked to see the cost now included $50 tax on a $419 vacation to Newport, Rhode Island. This was not true in previous years. It's not just II doing it. Who benefits from the tax is a good question.

The states and local juridictions get the taxes. It based on the transient occupancy taxes of those states and counties. For rentals, they should have been getting these fees all along. The trend is toward timeshare owners and exchangers to have to pay them as well.

Resort tax?

I just returned from Marriott KoOlina. I was charged about 6.80 per night called something like that made me think it was the Hawaii occupancy tax.(I left the bill at work so I cannot check the exact amount right now) I did not ask about it because I though this was common. I was charged this at the Bay Club about 3 years ago and I own there.

If this is an occupancy tax, why is the resort also charging tax?
