Can you believe this gas price in Orlando?

This really pisses me off. We came out of Pollo Tropical on Vineland in Orlando and needed gas and there was a gas station next door. My hubby noticed the price when he pulled up to the pump.

I can’t believe it’s not against the law to charge prices like this.

It’s right across from the cluster of Marriott hotels. We did not buy gas there, wonder how many realize too late. I can only think they are taking advantage of foreign visitors who don’t realize the price is outrageous. This was the price all week.

You stay in High Class of areas if they charge this much for gas. Won't your BMW run on Costco gas? Smiley face smiley face.

Mine does. ;)

Go down the street to Walmart...gas was 2.21

That price is absurd! Since the law of supply and demand is still the rule, simply go down the street to get your gas -- eventually this station (and other similarly priced stations around it) will get the message loud & clear!

Is that the price of gas at a car rental site?

That gas station is known for having that outrageous price all the time. I drive by there quite often, and the price per gallon seems to be always $5.99. I believe is was ranked as the most expensive in the lower 48 states (I’ve seen it more expensive in Barrow, AK). I bet the European tourists to not realize how expensive it is, as it is comparable to the cost of gas in many European countries.

The average regular gas prices in Orlando is $2.79 per gal.

My question is, if this is the normal practice for this gas station. Why doesn’t the city, state or federal government step in and stop this practice.

Ah yes, capitalism at it's finest.

It's only a crime if it's in response to an emergency or disaster etc... aka 'gouging.' Day to day? You can charge any price you like.

So do both of mine:D. Costco premium was lower than regular sold at nearby stations yesterday. Unusual but nice.

Except in emergencies, gas station can charge whatever they want. Caveat Emptor.

Cheers

Not only is the Costco Premium normally cheaper, but in our area, it's a much higher octane than mid-grade and often exceeds premium octane--except for the specialty premiums (shell?)

We have been in Orlando all week and gas prices have been $2.18-$2.22 at the various stations we've seen. I've never heard of a station charging that much more when every other station in the area is charge over $3 less per gallon. Did somebody make a mistake on the sign?

No mistake, the pump said the same and it was all week like that and there were some people getting gas . It was near the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets where the complex of a few Marriott hotels are.

Wow! And I thought we had it expensive here in this neck of the woods at $1.379 CAD/litre (about $3.92 USD/US gallon).
This was not a normal price, over double of other gas stations,

Between people who are inattentive and European tourists, my guess is that they found that they can make more money at that price than the more competitive prices which have little profit margin. You might not like it, but give them credit for business savvy (and buy your own gas down the road).

This happens everywhere, granted not this much. Drive down any interstate any you'll find gas prices higher, sometimes much higher, than if you drove a mile or so down the state or county road that the exit is for. People want and are willing to pay higher prices for convenience. Just jump off, pull into the station right at the exit, fill up and jump right back on the interstate.

Is paying more worth it? Only you can make that decision.

Driving in Georgia now, gas right off the highway $2.49.

I assume that is right near the airport. Traditionally there are two gas stations there (across form each other) that charge outrageous prices. You have to go another mile down the road to find normal prices.

They are preying on people who are short on time and have to fill their rental car.

That place on Vineland by the outlet mall has been $5.99 for years. I think it's a trap for people who picked the option of topping off their gas before returning the rental car. I've never seen a car there.

Undoubtedly not the highest in the nation. Be careful if you decide to take the (breathtaking) drive down the Big Sur coast, Highway 1, in California, near where I live. Halfway down, there's a little town called Gorda. It has the only gas station for almost 50 miles in either direction. I haven't been for a while, so I don't know the current price. But if you go to the Yelp page for them, it shows a picture that someone took of the pump price, $6.99 per gallon.

If that was the price everywhere, it would push people into electric cars faster than anything.

Jim
