This question has been asked for years..To me it makes much better sense to have the BIG game on Saturday ..It would mean people don't have to call-in sick on Monday, more time to recover after partying, more stores would be open for last minute prep, etc, etc,...Whatcha think?

NFL is a Sunday sport.

If people need to recover, that's on them for behaving in ways that require recovery. Arrange for Monday off if desired or act responsibly in order to meet Monday work commitments. I don't think a sports league needs to change due to fans not being able to handle themselves. Last minute prep? Not sure why that can't happen on Sunday. Our grocery stores are open. We know well in advance exactly which day the big game will be played. We know 2 weeks in advance which teams will play. I can't see how one day of "last minute prep" makes any sense whatsoever.

Employers can do as they wish. If one of the teams is our home city team, and I owned a business, I would give everyone the day off without impacting their time off balance. Or put out a warning that same-day call-offs would be punished. If you know you don't want to work on Monday, make your arrangements in advance.

I understand NFL is a Sunday sport..But for the biggest NFL day of the year; why not Saturday? Convenience Convenience Convenience !!!
Geekette, sports leagues are all about the FANS... No Fans

; no league....As far as "last minute prep"; have u ever forgotten anything?

When u talk about "If one of the teams were in our home city and I owned a business" The Super Bowl is a World Wide event; not just the city played in....

I would guess Sunday would be a better evening for TV ratings, and that's the determining factor.

I agree it is all about tv ratings and why chance now after fifty two (52) years.

I like the idea of Superbowl Saturday! :cheer:
NFL games are on Saturdays in December once college games are done, so there is a precedent for Saturday games.
NFL moved the Pro-Bowl from Honolulu (Yay) to Orlando (Meh)so obviously they were willing to take a chance on that change.

Bad idea. Saturdays in February are for college hoops.

Most SB parties aren't about getting hammered, they're about hanging out with friends and having apps and a few beers. I don't know of anyone who's ever called in sick after a SB party, and I partied as hard as anyone in my youth. And what grocery stores aren't open on SB Sunday??

Are U kidding me? Tape the friggin b-ball game..This is the SUPER BOWL..."I partied as hard as anyone in my youth".........Guess it depends on where u grew up..

Nope, not kidding. There's a reason that sports generally don't infringe on other sports. Colleges don't play football on Friday nights and pros don't play on Saturday (there are a few exceptions, but very few).

Game's over by 8:00. If one can't recover in 12 hours, they're probably such a lightweight they shouldn't be drinking...

Bad idea since there's no compelling reason to change. Certainly none promoted in this thread.

8:00 on the west coast. Some of us live farther east and the game is over much later.
If the NFL moved the game to Saturday the college hoops games could be moved to Sunday that week.

Or, we could just leave the SB on Sunday. 12 hours, 10 hours, whatever...it's plenty of time.

Anyone that needs to get hammed at a SB party to the point that they can't recover for work has issues. Or, if they can't help themselves, they can schedule Monday off beforehand. I'm not sure we should start changing traditions simply to accommodate those with drinking problems. If that's the impetus, then every major event needs to be moved to Friday or Saturday night.

Wait a minute, let me see if I understand the gist of this thread... the main point of the OP is to change the day of the Super Bowl to Saturday, just so more people can get "hammered" and not have it impact their work schedule?

LOL... good luck with that one. :)

I'm not the OP, but I agree with the OP. It's not a drinking issue. Not everyone works 9 to 5.

Just about everyone is off on Sunday. What is your point about "not everyone works 9 to 5"? If it's not about drinking, what is it about? Just asking.

The game gets over late, I work at a distribution center. Start time can be as early as 4 am. This issue doesn't really effect me, I see it with my co-workers. I also see an issue with my friends children once they get to a certain age they want to watch too, but if the game is on until 10 or 11 pm that's kinda late for a 12 year old who enjoys football.

The only argument I have read from anyone else to keep it on Sunday is "it's tradition".

No point in discussing this anymore. I've stated my opinion other's have stated theirs. We obviously will not agree.

I live on the east coast..Game starts at 6:30pm...After the half time ceremonies and other BS, game ends about 10:30pm or so...Then after the SB parties I go to, people party on and on....That's why game should be on Saturday ...No muss, no fuss..

It could be earlier on Sunday. Ratings dictate start time. But not on Saturday. There are lots of youth activities scheduled for Saturdays and lots of businesses that are closed Sundays are open Saturdays. I'm highly confident that more people would be adversely affected by a Saturday game than a Sunday game.

For the past 50 years the SB has been 6:30pm EST...Reason being: Audience throughout USA..I'm sure "youth activities" can delay/miss one day....Most youths will be watching SB on Saturday or Sunday anyway.....I can see u are not a true fan of NFL...I'm a die-hard

Its all about tv ratings! If Saturday would provide higher rating (more $$$) than the game would be on a Saturday, but it doesn't and it won't be. I do think the NFL is onto something with an 18 game schedule- that would push the Super Bowl back by 2 weeks every year so it would fall the day before President's Day. Not everyone gets the day off of course- but a lot of people do. Seems like a win-win to me!

Selfish? Millions of people disagree....SUPER BOWL sells 30 second commercials for $30 million...Someone else is watching besides me.

I suggest you mail your suggestion to Goodell. I have high confidence that it'll be filed appropriately.

The NFL mostly consists of bunch of overpaid oafs playing a game for obscene amounts of money. They could play or not, no big deal to me, and judging by the ratings decline, seems I’m not alone in thinking it is on the way down. Even if Fox just recently paid a gazzilion bucks for Thursday night football, IMHO they might as well gamble on bitcoin. Seems just as logical.

The only reason for the Stupor Bowl for me is the rollout of new commercials and now thanks to YouTube, I don’t have to endure the game to see them.

I’ll take the semi amateur college sports any day of the week over any pro game.

Cheers

To be clear, I don't care if they move the game to Saturday, or Tuesday, for that matter, provided that there's enough notice given for all of the affected entities (small biz, other sports, youth activities among the many) to adjust. Furthermore, there needs to be more justification for the move than "East coast, graveyard-shifting, alcoholics aren't happy. They want to be able to drink excessively, drive home and be uselessly hungover the next day. Scrw everyone else."

A more reasonable proposal would be to perhaps make the Monday after the game some form of holiday (move Presidents Day?).

More of the country doesn't watch the Superbowl than does watch it. I realize it is an extremely large event and I am a fan but it it is still only a game and it's hard to start moving it around to convenience some. I think they have done evaluations on it and i'm sure there reasons why they stuck with Sunday.
