I would be surprised if they have actually started the project. In last quarters earnings call, HGVC stated Maui had stalled and they had removed the project from all financial projections. In the most recent earning call, last week, they never mentioned Maui. I think they would have been promoting the Maui at if it was indeed moving forward. Instead they spoke about breaking ground on the 3rd location in Myrtle beach and the joint venture to buy Elara.

hahaha, they tore down the old resort buildings if that counts as breaking ground. Several members have stopped by the location and NOTHING has been touched since then.

If you are taking lottery picks for the opening date, I'll take April 2025.

When we were on Maui in March it didn't look like anything had been done or was going to be starting soon.

Will the permits not expire? They told us in April at the Hawaiian Village that it is still a go but had no idea when so they didn't lie about it. They will let us know because we showed interest.

Even when they build, the property location is not great - across the street from the beach and in windswept Kihei. Although it is better than nothing, we will opt for Westin or Hyatt in Kaanapali directly on the beach. But that's just me...

We prefer less crowded Kihei (we own there) but that's just us.

I drive by the site every day. It hasn't been touched in a year and a half, just large grassy vacant lot.

And said in earlier posts, it's a bad spot. Across a busy street from a windswept beach that usually has murky water. Also not really near many restaurants.

I'm more optimistic about the location than others -- I do believe the beach area (immediately south, near the fish pond) is better and that Kihei is a charming town. I hope to have the Maui option one day and I think we will all be better for it.

Best,

Greg

It might be more expedient, and a better location, if they convert part of the Grand Wailea to TS...however that's wishful thinking...

Much prefer Ka'anapali to Kihei.

thanks for the replies guess another case of the sales reps not being kept up to date

Or just lying... After all, his lips were moving.

At our owner update here on the Big Island our salesperson told us Maui is off the table - at least at this location. With the investor backing out and the not so prime location it's no longer viable. Focus is on the Ocean Tower at the Hilton Waikoloa and then finding a better location that is truly ocean front. Think they will liquidate the property, take their lumps and move on.

Wow, a sales person told the truth. This is what we gathered already from the investors update meeting minutes.

A viable option would be to convert a wing of the Grand Wailea or purchase/convert/modernize a resort between Kaanapali and Napili that is right on the beach. This would be more expedient than building from the ground up and fighting the permit process.

IMHO...HGVC blew it when they didn't convert the old Embassy Suites on Kaanapali beach. It is now a DRI property - the Kaanapali Beach Club. How could DRI make this purchase work and HGVC could not?
