I'm ashamed to admit, I've never looked into what the trust does or if its legit. I've always just paid the $20.
Does it go to a good cause and is the money spent wisely?

I did a little looking into it a few years back. It seems legit to me, it's a legal 501(c)(3)/501(c)(6) charity, and they mostly dole their money out to local Maui organizations... I think the unstated goal is to create goodwill for our resorts and their owners. After the fires I think the KOR Foundation helped pay for temporary housing for a bunch of displaced staff members and maybe others.

I do make the donation every year because I think there is value in giving a little back to the local community and (collectively) sending the message that we, as owners, have a stake in the community and that we care. It's a small thing, but it's something.

You can see what they've spent their money on at their website: https://www.korfhawaii.org/what.html

I did some research on the foundation before we paid our maintenance fees; it's a legitimate non-profit and donates to a wide range of Maui organizations such as Scouting, Boys & Girls Club, Maui Humane Society, Women Helping Women, etc. I agree with Daviator that I believe there's value (for us, anyway) in giving back to the Maui community. We own multiple weeks and paid the $20 for each.
