I am looking to extend our week in Aruba (Marriott Surf) with a rental through Redweek. We own in the same resort and will be in a two bedroom the week before. I have looked through several posts and could not find the answer as to what I need to do to ensure this all goes well. Do we ask for the name transfer post deposit but pre full payment? Do I need to check to see if maintaince has been paid (I suspect it has since the renters will be at the resort the same week in another unit).

Looking for some direction.

If you're renting through a private party, which it sounds like, I would suggest
  1. checking with the resort to ensure that they own the right to rent and that their account is in good standing and the MF is paid (or if it hasn't been billed yet, if they've been on time in the past)
  2. talking to them via telephone to ensure that you have a good "feel" about them
  3. ask what documentation they will give you to authorize your occupancy. What is necessary depends on the resort, but at least a letter authorizing your occupancy of villa xxx for week yyy in resort zzz, cc to the resort and/or its management
  4. getting a contract or at least a letter of agreement - I will send you...and you will..... before sending any money. (An email agreement should be adequate for a small deposit to hold the week.)
  5. sending either full payment or deposit depending on what you work out
  6. don't expect the name transfer until you have paid in full (some owners may transfer it before that)
  7. call the resort again to ensure that it is in your name.
  8. and....have a great time!
