HGV Max - Hawaii Collection
<edited based on feedback below>

Father has Alzheimer's and is beyond capable of travel anymore, looking for options before just refusing to give HGV any more money.

We have 4 contracts available, all are (former Diamond) Hawaii collection. Please correct me if I don't know what I'm talking about.
We're new to all of this. I do have full PoA for my father, so I can do any and all business on his behalf.

Contract 1: 3,000 points annually
Contract 2: 35,500 points annually
Contract 3: 60,000 points annually
Contract 3: 15,000 points annually

Maintenance fee is NOT paid, approx. 22 cents per point. They are currently due with a date of Jan 16th. We are fully prepared to just let them die because I don't believe HGV can't do any damage to my father at this point.

I will cover transfer fees ($250) and and reasonable fees you incur during the purchase process (shipping, notary, etc).

Hoping to do something nice for someone rather than just giving HGV the boot to the rear, but we'll see.

Forgot to say, as far as I know the "Hawaii collection" bit is irrelevant these days. The only thing I remember about it is that you can book those specific resorts much earlier than the whole collection.

few items that are important.

1. hgvmax would not transfer to the resale buyer
2. the restrictions placed on the resale buyer would also limit these points to the hawaii collection.

Thanks for the info on #1

What do you mean about #2? The points can be used anywhere in HGV.

Do you know the names of the properties for each contract?
There's not a specific property for these listed on the site, they all say they belong to the Hawaii Collection. That's the only terminology I ever heard mentioned, too.

I just looked at two of the contracts and they just say Diamond Resorts Hawaii Collection

Resell Points in what was DRI now I believe called HVC can only be used to Book directly in their Home Collection. In this the case the Hawaiian Collection. The Hawaiian Collection consists of 2 Resort in Hawaii (KBC and Point at Poipu) and about 6 Resorts in the Western USA. You can not use them to directly Book into any other DRI Resort.

This is copied/pasted from the 60k contract:
Reservations. I may make a reservation up to 13 months before check-in at any of my Home Collection Resorts. I may make a reservation up to 10 months before check-in at any of The Club affiliated resorts. All reservations for the Collection and The Club are confirmed on a first-come, first-served, space available basis. Reservations at specific accommodations are not guaranteed. I will lose some or all of my Points used to make a reservation if I cancel that reservation fewer than 91 days before my scheduled arrival date unless I purchase a reservation Protection Plan at the time of booking."

My parents stayed in Diamond resorts all over the country before the HGV stuff.

they likely bought from diamond directly. as mentioned above, a resale owner will not be able to do this.

nor will they have access to any HGVC resorts at all as max will not transfer either.

If you are certain, I’ll take your word for it. I certainly am not! The way HGV worded it, the contract just transfers…but I’m smart enough to know they lie 🤣

Have you tried to return them to the developer?

I feel you can transfer those contracts and points to a family member. The OP, needs to research this.

Also, to the OP, are all these contracts paid off in full. No loans on any of these 4 contracts.

From Post #1 it seems like they want to get rid of these Contracts. They could transfer them from Dad to Child and keep all the original Benefits.

Yes. They want an 18-month membership fee to take them back. Not gonna happen. They can’t do any damage to my dad, so we are willing to let them foreclose if they want to.

We don’t want it. There isn’t anything wrong with it, but it just doesn’t match how we travel.
The four (4) contracts must be all paid off in full.
MF and Club Fees must be paid in full.
Long since paid for in cash.

Correct, but I don’t want it.

Also the Modern in Oahu.

Did the finally add the Modern Honolulu? Prior to Hilton becoming involved it was not officially part of the Hawaiian Collection. I did note it finally has some small Condos available that were converted from Hotel Rooms. But they cost a lot of Points.

I have stayed at both with this ownership.

Yes, see thread below.

This language indicates that the contracts are part of The Club.

The way it works is that someone owns a timeshare interest in one of the Hilton Resorts. In your case, the timeshare interest is the four contracts. An owner has the reservation rights associated with that interest. In your situation, those contracts allow reservations to be made at resorts that are in the Hawaii Collection.

As part of the sales process, Hilton sells membership in The Club. When an owner is a member of The Club, the owner has the opportunity to reserve at any resort that is part of the Club, in accordance with the rules of the Club.

Club membership is not transferable in a resale. So, if you transfer those ownerships, the new owner will not be a Club member. Consequently, the new owner will only be able to reserve in the Hawaii Collection. Of course, the new owners will also not have to pay the Club dues.

I’m happy to retrieve and share contracts if anyone needs.

I freely admit my knowledge of all of this is limited.

Not a problem at all. One of the main missions of this group is to provide this type of help to people in your exact situation. We are glad to help.

Sure but at 22 cents per point maintenance why would anyone want to?

I'm pretty sure that Hilton would not let the transfer take place until the 2026 fees were paid in full. However, the buyer would get to use those points in 2026.

It’s a good “deal” if that’s how you travel, my parents loved it. It’s just not how we roll. We tend to be very spontaneous and live hyper-local for long periods.

This isn’t one of those “oh my god we messed up and we’re screwed” scenarios. My parents were happy for a long time with this stuff.

Not sure, and we have the means to take care of that if necessary, but it would be with an agreement with the “buyer”. It’s not something we will do on our own.
