FOUR - really should have been a three.
I'm not sure I've ever done the wordle bot analysis before. I happened across it this morning or would not have realized my 3rd guess had an error. It evaluated my answer as no skill - no luck - appropriately. Had I not done the analysis, I would have not realized it. After my 2nd guess, there was only one answer. So, yes, this should have been a three. OTH, it was quick and I'm guessing I would have taken a lot longer without guess 3.
Like you, I missed that one of my letters was established to be wrong in the third word. I type too fast without using my brain. :)

Four. I don't use helper apps. Seems a bit like cheating. I can be mediocre all by myself. LOL! :D

Actually, you have to have a NYT subscription (which I don't). I have no idea why I chose to do it the other day nor why it worked. It doesn't now.
After you solve, on this page you have an option to select it from the results page.

It was pretty cool. It analyzed each of my selections, giving you a skill and creativity score for each guess.
It told me my 3rd guess (ABOVE) had 0% skill and 0% luck. I hadn't realized I used A on the 1st guess making ABOVE a bad choice.

There is a free app at https://scoredle.com/ that is similar, maybe not as good. I'm normally too lazy to go there. The wordle bot told me there was only 1 answer after BROIL while scordle said there was 3. I do chuckle at the 'what would scoredle do'. Perhaps SLATE is their favorite starter?

If I ever spring for a paper subscription, it'll likely be NYT. Especially if they keeping teasing with things like the wordle bot, and articles I am interested in. NYT certainly keeps me entertained with the games. I would have to talk DH out of his local paper subscription and I'm not sure that would fly (gotta have that Nebraska sports coverage).

Four. Again. :D

I tried a new starting word, and struck out with it. So much for being clever. ;)

I pay $4 a month for the NYT online edition. Lots of good articles and puzzles.
