We have very good friends who would like to spend two nights in New Hampshire next week (July 29 & 30). Specifically they'd like to drive from Westchester County NY early Thursday morning, spend Thursday & Friday nights in NH and drive back home early Saturday morning after breakfast. They'd like to spend one day in White Mountains (perhaps driving up Mt Washington) and one day at a lake. Ideally they'd spend both nights at the same hotel. Due to health issues, they do not want to do strenuous hiking.

Do you have any suggestions as for a two trip. If you think it is best to spend two nights in White Forest or two nights at a lake, that is fine. Please give us your advice

Two other things:
First, They'd like to have two nice dinners, so can you recommend restaurants along with a place to stay?
Second, I was just looking at Trip Advisor. Do you have any thoughts about a night moose tour, or a gondola ride or Conway Scenic Railroad (I know that is not the Mount Washington Cog Railway but my friend likes train rides).

As always thanks for your advice.

If I was planning a couple nights for just DH and a regular hotel room worked I would book at the Omni Mount Washington. Great White Mountain location and lovely restaurants/spa on site. There is also an Inn on the property (Bretton Arms) that I have been too multiple times and is usually a bit more cost effective. Omni Mount Washington Resort | Mount Washington Hotels (omnihotels.com)

As for the train ride, personally I think the ones out of Downtown No. Conway and Hobo railroad out of Lincoln are pretty lame with no great scenery. I would suggest either the Cog Railway or the Crawford Notch excursion for scenery Mountaineer Train | Conway Scenic Railroad

If they would want to combine their nice dinner with a non scenic train ride: Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train - Scenic Dining in the White Mountains, NH (nhdinnertrain.com)
