I'm a fan of the pithy, poignant, or otherwise perceptive theatrical q uips that zoom by unless you are paying attention. I was rewatching A Streetcar Named Desire this evening. The Street car quote best known in Marlon Brando calling out for Stella. So that isn't underappreciated. But it's Tennessee Williams, so there are plenty of lines that cut to the core.

The "underappreciated quote" element came forward with one quote of Stella talking to Blanche, which I won't get into because it cuts too closely for me to share in a forum such as this. But then there was another quote that struck me:

"An hour isn’t just an hour, but a little piece of opportunity dropped in our hands. And who knows what to do with it?"

My sig features another quote of this type, from The Princess Bride. "Life IS pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something." - The Dread Pirate Roberts

So if you are interested, have at it. What are your lesser known or underappreciated theatrical quotes. BTW - I use "theatrical" to be clear that quotes can be either filmed movies/videos or live theater.

“Dyin’ ain’t no way to make a livin’”
Outlaw Josey Wales

Other than that how was the theatre, Mrs Lincoln?
then, a couple dozen Shakespeare come to mind

The three I know are the three I say. Two are Terminator quotes I say when I leave. " I'll be back" mostly to the guys and " Hasta la vista baby" always to the girls. When I say "I'll be back" it usually means I won't. The third is actually two Barney phrases when telling a whopper. The beginning of the story often uses the word "legendary" and the story always ends with "true story".

From Harvey:

Dowd : Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.

"DO! We're not going to do anything." - Sir Sidney Roughdiamond
"Until it's too late." - Major Shorthouse
Nodding. "That's the most sensible thing you're said all day." - Sir Sidney Rough Diamond
