Yosemite

I was in San Jose for business and had to drive to Fresno for a meeting. I decided to squeeze in a day trip to Yosemite today. The last time I was there was in 1991 during the Summer.

Some observations:

I was able to drive from the north gate to the Ahwahnee hotel and not see one single car the entire drive....amazing difference compared to the crowds in the summer.

The Ahwahnee is a classic....and they had rooms available for $249 tonight....very tempting.

There was snow on the mountain tops, half dome and El Capitan. The falls were great. I then went to check out the Ansel Adams gallery...the weather was cool, but not cold.

One interesting thought was how amazing the Disneyland Grand California hotel recreates the look and feel of the Ahwahnee and in many cases the Disney resort is better than the classic.....(no flames please).

Hello Bill

We got into the Ahwahnee on a last minute cancelation from someone else ( pure luck ) - it is a Hotel that is on our top 10 list to get back to. We did it late fall to also avoid the crowds. Wonderful feel and ambiance.

Greg

ps - want to start a thread of wonderful hotels? Just got back from Carmel ....Tickle Pink ... holly cow ...for a fair price ( by Calif. standards ) ...the views are totally awesome on the Coast. Never knew it was there - right next to the Hyatt Highlands Inn ... in fact it DESTROYED our couple of days at the HIGHLANDS ... ( big smile ) and we had a great room at the Highlands.
