We have a week reserved at Island Park Village Resort in ID in August 2009. Is there a website or book that describes the rooms at the various Yellowstone Hotels and/or Cabins? Also, what are the airports that folks use for flying to Yellowstone?

We stayed at Island Park last year and enjoyed it very much. Here's the website for in park reservation ) http://www.travelyellowstone.com/ and also if you keep following links descriptions of the accomodations. We stayed in the Roosevelt cabins one nighta as we did the Chuckwagon dinner there. The rooms are basically rustic. They have a wood burning stove and no bathrooms. But their are showers with bathrooms available next to the cabins. Highly recommend the Chuckwagon dinner...fun and good food.

Xanterra runs the in-park hotels at Yellowstone (and alot of the other national parks as well). If you go to the Yellowstone Park website there is a link to hotel/cabin accomondations. There it gives info on all the types of rooms available and the cost per night.

I've already made our reservations for our tip in July 2009 but as we are staying at Yellowstone Village just outside the park, I may end up cancelling the rooms inside the park (and saving that $$) as I am told by former park travelers that I shouldn't have trouble getting back to the timeshare at the end of a long day. IPV is quite a bit farther away and staying a night or 2 in the park might be worth the $$.

As for where to fly into, I am wondering that as well. I am leaning toward Salt Lake City so far. I need a major airport with car rental, ability to return the car to a different location (we are planning to end at Glarcier Park), etc. We love visitng the national parks but some of them are such a PIA to get to!

We used Jackson Hole Airport for our daughter when she left us after part of a week with us at the cabins at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel area. On the day she left on a 4PM flight we took a leisurly drive and got to see the Grand Tetons. Took most of the day. I think if you want to drive direct it would take about 2 1/2 hours depending on where in the park you are headed (coming from). Also if using the road through the Hayden Valley in the park and the Bison are in rut ( late summer) allow extra time as the road blocks (Bison Jams) can delay your travels.

As far as driving on to Glacier that is what we did also. It is a full days drive between the 2 parks.
