I just did my first DC trade today and we are very pleased with it. WE joined because of the hope to be able to get more immediate confirmations, flexibility on travel dates and guaranteed view categories.

We accomplished all those goals today. Last night my husband and I finally decided we definitely wanted to go to Marco Island again instead of our home resort in Hilton Head.
We need 2 two bedroom villas and possibly a third villa for our friends for a shorter stay.
I checked II and nothing available ( middle 2 weeks in August, so not prime time, but still nothing available in II ).

I called to check DC availability and was easily able to secure exactly the views we wanted, with midweek check in and check outs on exactly the dates we wanted. One phone call. Done. And the third room is (currently) available if our friends can decide what they want to do AND if we want to give up another week and convert to points.

No waiting for exchanges, which we WERE successfully able to pull off last time with 3 villas, but we had to book back up hotel rooms ( and subsequently cancel) and then when the exchange came through the check in days didn't match exactly, so we had to do a night for cash and all squeeze in one room for the first night and leave one night in the other room unuse. And ontop of all that, we didn't get the views we wanted.

The ease and simplicity of this transaction is wonderful. I can book my airfare since I am confirmed into the exact dates and I can rent a car and make all my plans without having to wait and worry.

Awesome. Working for us as designed, no doubt, so far.

I know someone will feel COMPELLED to say something negative and point out their reasons for this not being a value, but its all personal and this is the FIRST exchange in 13 years of timesharing that caused me no angst. Feels good to be confirmed. Just like making a hotel reservatio-- just cehck availabilty and pricing and confirm if you are happy. BUT these two rooms that Marriott wants $500+ ( less if use owners discount) only cost me about 2500, including annual DC fees. That would cost me 6000-9000 for two rooms through marriott depending on whether use owners discount or straight retail.....I am OK with that!
My kids will be thrilled.

Not something negative, just an opposing view :) . Negativity is all based on which side of the discussion you are on.:ignore:

Yes, that's right, of course....an "opposing view".....

Fantastic -- I'm happy to hear about the successful ressie -- now please take pictures and tell us how the property is. That's a place that I would like to visit to.

All the best,

Greg

Us too. I proposed to my beautiful wife on Marco Island while staying at the Marriott almost 20 years ago and we always said we'd make it back but never have. With a Marriott TS there now its on our list.

Marco Island

I have to say that the Marco Island Crystal Shores had the nicest balconies of any of the Marriott timeshares I have stayed at.
Our balcony had 2 lounge chairs, and a table with 4 chairs, and a view of the ocean sunsets.
If I knew how to post pics, I would post the ones I took.

We are there now, and that is absolutely correct about the balcony.

We have a gulf side unit with a super view of the beach and gulf. With the way the sun is beating down on the beach and gulf front units, I am just as happy to have a little shade to go with the view.

The interior is definitely a step up from traditional MVCI properties. The kitchen has a black granite counter and 4'x9' black granite island between the cooking area and dining area.

The total unit is definitely smaller than other 2 BR MVCI builds that we have visited. My quick estimate is about 1100 sq ft. One of the clever approaches to hiding the reduced space is to have a "great" room approach whereby the kitchen, dining room, and living room are defined by arrangement of the furniture. The flooring in that entire area is tile with carpet only in the bedrooms.

There is a total of 67 units in the building, and a lot of grass for "future construction." Because the project hasn't been completed, check in and the market place are located in a building that gives the impression of being a high end construction trailer.

Despite this being a beautiful building and location, neither Nancy nor I feel any great need to come back here.

Art,
I'm with you on this one. The island is nice, but for me there just isn't anything worth coming back to see. I like to be out under the water diving, not walking the beach. I am very happy going back to Ocean Pointe on the other side of the state and the ocean.
I do have to say I did like the location of the resort with respect to the small mall across the street. We could always find someplace to eat in the evening.

I totally get that. MArco works for us so well right now because its a direct flight, easy airport and drive. Quite beach and pool. The shells to find keep them VERY busy. Lots of space and no wrangling for lounge charis. The ocean is calm, clear and aqua and there are great activities all day ( rain or shine) for small children at the resort.

We don't need mcuh to do with little ones. We just want EASY. They jsut want beach and a pool with a slide.
We like Hilton Head where we own, but hate the drive. The water is rougher and not nearly as pretty ( which is VERY important to me).

The on site restaurant is mediocre at best, other amenities quite limited adn the area restaurants are a little lacking as well, in our opinion.......but the balconies...are phenomenal, indeed!

The kids love it, so we do too.

As the kids get older, we'll need somewhere with a little more adventure, perhaps, but for now, it really works for us.

I just used points for a Marco Island stay in December over New Years. I loved the instant exchange which now allows me to look for airfare. I was able to get a Wednesday to Wednesday check-in/check-out. Which works for us since we could not do the trip if it was a weekend check-in. I've always wanted to go there too to see the Everglades. At this point I don't care about skim since we can only travel during school holidays. Right now I need flexibility and stressless vacation planning. I'm with op as now we can plan our trip without wondering if we need to book a hotel stay just in case that trade does not come through. Before DC I did request a trade there for spring break 2011 which was mid April for us and it did not come through. We ended up going to Hawaii.

These are all the best reasons for joining the DC. So long as you have the points available to accomplish the vacation goals you desire, then points are the best way to go.
