i am thinking of gifting one of my aruba weeks to my niece as a college graduation present. she has worked very hard and deserves a special vacation. she is 21 and very responsible so i am not worried about damages to the villa. since i have not been to aruba for 3 years,so i am wondering about the room tax and if there are any other taxes to account for at check-out. if you have stayed at the ocean or surf club recently, can you please tell me what the room tax and/if other $$ are mandatory.
thank you

taxes

I checked my bill from early June for the Surf Club. There is a $6.50 government tax per day. Other than that, it's just the Beachbar and internet charges. Hope this helps.

The taxes vary depending on the size of the unit.

I asked and it's 7.50 a day for a 3bdrm

You had internet charges? I thought Marriott's had free internet?

Just to continue the thread... You had to pay daily taxes? Isn't that covered under a yearly MF/tax structure?

Maybe they are paying daily taxes and internet charges because they are renting it as Hotel Lodging by the night directly from Marriott.

Daily taxes are becoming a popular ripoff by local governments. Hawaii is something like 7.00/day on your own unit, even though you already paid real estate tax. I guess they think timeshare owners are getting away with something compared to hotel guests.

I think it was $7.50 per day for the 2 BR and 6.50 for the 1BR; not sure about the studio. These are government taxes and applicable to owners staying in their owned week, so not just for renters.

Internet is free and the only other charges are purchases (duh!) and if you decide to pre-reserve a palapa. Half are available daily for free and half can be pre-reserved for a $10 or $15 fee per day. Bimini and regular chaises are free for guest use.

I think your niece will have a great vacation! Not as active a night life as some of the more college-oriented spots, but I think overall a much safer environment and a great place to unwind.

We locked out our unit and used the master suite - $6.50 was for that, I'm assuming the full 2BR would be more. These are Aruba government charges - not covered by any maintenance fee. I've experienced them in several locations, including Hawaii.

We had internet charges because we don't travel with a laptop. We used the kiosks in the lobby - but later found out that you can use the business center at the hotel for free (not advertised, probably just for hotel guests, but they don't check). They do have free wireless.

Of course beach bar charges ... I love those happy hour drinks under my papapa! And my husband doesn't drink, so I get two for one all by myself!
