Which Wyndham resorts have you stayed at that are good or bad for walkers/joggers/bikers?

I generally like walks/runs/bike rides on or near the beach. So locations such as Myrtle Beach, Pompano Beach, Daytona, Panama City, Clearwater, Atlantic City, etc. are perfect for that.

Walking around city environments can be enjoyable as well. Walking to dinner or entertainment are excellent in places like San Antonio City Walk, Destin Harbor, NYC, Nashville, National Harbor, etc.

What other Wyndham locations are in walking distance to trails or streets ideal for walking, jogging or biking?

Newport, RI. The cliff walk is great and just going around town is fun.

OTA (Alexandria) - Mount Vernon trail is great for walking or biking - and you can walk across the Woodrow Wilson bridge between National Harbor and Alexandria - it’s about 4-5 miles door to door between the resorts. We do this quite often since these resorts are within two hours driving distance for us.

Lots of great mountainous hiking trails in the Poconos as well - not far from the resort itself. Some are biking friendly as well. The AT is within five miles driving distance from the resort.

Austin has a really nice park not far from the resort down by the Colorado river - we walked all around that park area when staying there. It’s bike friendly as well.

Fairfield Glade is great for this, miles of walking and bike trails on the property... and some nice hikes around.

If you don't mind driving a little for a scenic hike, either of the Sevierville, TN locations, and lots of hiking near Sapphire Valley and Lake Lure, but not great for biking probably.

Biking on the Virginian Capitol Trail - 50 miles between Jamestown and Richmond

Can you rent bikes for that trail? Or is it BYOB?

We stayed at Ocean Ridge, Edisto Island, SC for 4 weeks this Spring. My husband rented a bike and enjoyed daily morning rides. The picture below of the albino deer is one he took while on one of his rides.

In case anyone is staying there and planning on renting bikes, you can get a reduced rate if you pay cash.

I drive between Alexandria and National Harbor and never noticed anyone walking or biking across. Is this done by many people or is extremely rare? The views must be quite nice.

Also, can you clarify if these places are good for road biking or trail biking? I only have a road bike for now. I will definitely try the Virginian Capitol Trail - 50 miles between Jamestown and Richmond.

Thanks for all the tips!

There's a separate walking/biking part of the bridge. If you're driving southbound from National Harbor toward Alexandria over the Woodrow Wilson bridge - the pedestrian bridge is visible to your right. It's used quite often by both bikers and pedestrians. We walk the bridge almost every time we go to either NH or OTA. It's loud given you're walking adjacent to a major highway - at least until you get to the VA side - at which point there's a large noise barrier that makes it much quieter. The bridge trail and both ends of the trails on NH and/or Alexandria are road bike friendly. Parts of OTA have older cobblestone/brick walkways that aren't level though - so most folks biking around OTA use hybrid bikes with the wider biking tires as a result. If you head south after crossing the bridge toward the Mount Vernon trail - at least the first several miles are all paved and are road bike friendly - though we haven't gone the entire distance of the Mount Vernon trail so I'm not sure if it's paved the entire way down to Mount Vernon estate or not.

We just stayed at The Rushes, Door County, WI. Lots of nice walks at the resort, also we walked a bunch of towns. I slept well every night. We walked along the beach, we walked through parks, we walked and walked and walked.

I was thinking this would be once-in-a-while trip. Now I am thinking every two-three years. The problem is getting into the area. I guess that is a good use of my Shell points.

I love Hawaii for walking the beach. We even walk from Hono Koa north to the Ka'anapali area and have lunch at Duke's, then we walk further north along the beach, past the Westins and all the way to Black Rock, then we walk back. It's got to be 2 miles. But that is Maui.

We loved Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, too. That is the next trip I want to plan with some friends. Our kids are apparently not into history. We loved the walks and the exercise.

Lot's of bike shops in Williamsburg and most of them rent.
But not really set up for massive, cheap rentals like Hilton Head Island for instance. I bring my own bike to Williamsburg, Old Town, Pompano, Edisto because their rentals are $15-$20 a day whereas you can rent a bike in Hilton Head for $25 for a week and they bring it to your condo and pick it up.
