Has anyone been charged a "transient occupancy tax" staying at a Wyndham owner property as on owner not a guest? I have Club Wyndham Access and recently made a reservation at Wyndham Rancho Vistoso. I emailed them a question on the wifi and they responded and also let me know that Oro Valley they are in required them to charge a transient occupancy tax. It's only about $31 but still. They mentioned my ownership and that I get five free devices on wifi.

I have stayed at quite a few properties in AZ, CA, NV and never been charged a tax. Is this something normal at this property? I find it weird.

Edit: Nevermind I see it under the Helpful hints on Wyndham's website. They really need to call that out instead of being in the helpful hints.

  • This resort collects a Transient Occupancy Tax upon check-out based on unit size. For specific details, please contact the resort directly.

I was aware of the tax and I checked with the resort before I booked to see what the cost was going to be. Was not enough to impact my decision, the tax seems to be a local thing.

Yep I see it on the website under helpful hints. Guess I need to ensure I detail read it all. I agree $30 is not a huge deal but just found it really weird. Oh well not going to stop us from having fun.

Not all areas charge a TOT for timeshares. But if one is charged. You have to pay it whether you are a owner or guest.

We paid the tax when we stayed at the resorts on Kauai in Hawaii, at Angel's Camp and Vino Bello in California and in St, Thomas. We haven't stayed at Indio in California but I know they also collect the tax. In some locales the tax is based on the number of bedrooms in the unit. Wyndham, like any other resorts in the same area, is required to collect the tax.
