Wyndham Pts to RCI Pts to RCI Weeks - HELP!

Hello! I'm thinking of purchasing a resale on eBay for an annual 203,000 pts Wyndham timeshare at Smoky Mountains in TN. The MF's are approx $4.30/1000 pts. Is that good?

Also, I'm confused as to how Wyndham points trade into RCI. I saw the grid on these boards that shows how many Wyndham points you need to get a studio/1-bedroom, 2-bedroom etc in RCI. What I don't understand is what's the difference between RCI Points resorts and RCI weeks resorts? And when or if I decide to deposit my Wyndham points into RCI, which resorts am I able to trade into - RCI Points or Weeks Resorts, or both? I just need to know when we deposit our Wyndham points into RCI, which resorts in RCI am I eligible to use? Can someone please explain how this works?

The seller is offering a 'free' RCI membership with the sale, but I understand that means a 'free' RCI Weeks membership. What does this mean?

Thanks for any help with this. :)

Yes, $4.30 per K is very good MF for an established resort...and yes, those MFs are accurate.

Wyndham ownership includes an RCI Weeks membership -- NOT RCI points. But that's a tremendously broad portfolio of resorts -- more than 4,000 I believe. With that RCI membership you also get access to RCI Extra Vacations and Last Calls (both deeply discounted cash options for timeshare rentals).

As an owner of Wyndham points you can spend points on Wyndham reservations (without paying an exchange fee) or you can deposit points into the RCI Weeks system. (Not RCI Points.)

Points deposited into RCI Weeks trade through a separate on-line portal. Your Wyndham dues give you the RCI Weeks membership for free. Exchanges there incur the usual RCI Weeks exchange fee, currently $179 and about to go to $189.

I'd say there are no great bargains for a Wyndham owner in RCI Weeks unless you take advantage of other features of RCI Weeks mentioned above (or if you own other timeshare properties that participate in RCI Weeks you can deposit and trade them there in your free RCI Weeks account like any other timeshare owner).

Thanks so much for the information so far. If I’m not able to use all 203,000 points within my use-year, can I ‘bank’ those points with Wyndham to be used during my next use-year, or would I have to deposit those points into RCI so I don't lose them? On the flip side, does Wyndham allow you to 'borrow' from your points from your next use-year?

For instance, the points for this purchase will get alloted to me in October of next year, 2012. If I'm unable to use those points by the end of my use year, October, 2013, what are my options so I don't lose those points?

Sorry for all the questions, but better for me to know ahead of time, than to be sorry after my purchase. :whoopie:

Thanks again.

Wyndham points have a "Use Year" (which is not always a calendar year), and must be used before that year ends. By "used" I mean reserve a vacation that falls within the use year. For example assuming a calendar Use Year since we're in December I can book a reservation to stay somewhere this month using my 2011 points, or January through October (10 months ahead) using my 2012 points, or via advance reservation preference but only at my home resort, for this month using my 2011 points, January through December using my 2012 points, or January 2013 (13 months ahead) using my 2013 points.

You're right that another way to use points that would otherwise expire is to deposit them into RCI Weeks which in effect extends their availability by taking them out of your Wyndham account and putting them into RCI Weeks.

The other alternative is that before the first day of the Use Year, for a small fee you can put the upcoming year's points into the Wyndham points pool, where they remain available to aggregate with your other points for three years from the day you pool them. Points pool points can only be spent within Wyndham (so they can't be moved into RCI Weeks), and they no longer qualify for the 13 month advance reservation preference at your home resort. (There may be tricky ways to get pooled points out of the points pool and back into your regular account; I'm not famililiar with how that's done.)

You can't borrow a subsequent year's points into an earlier year, but you can buy (they call it "rent") specified amounts of additional points in the current year from Wyndham for cash. (Again there may be tricks to move a subsequent year's points back into the current year.)

There are ways to borrow points from a future use year. You may want to call reservations and ask them. Also, if are a VIP status account, you can pool points under the one year out point. The rules would appear on line in the members directory. Same with the rules on borrowing points.

This is exactly the answer I was looking for - THANKS so much! I requested the eBay seller send me the Estoppel letter to review, which they did that the same day I requested it. Now that I'm interested in moving forward with the purchase, I've requested the seller send me the contract to review, BEFORE any funds are transferred over to them. Am I on the right track here? The sale is through CJ Timeshares on eBay, and I've read good reviews about them here on TUG. :)

Thanks,
Monie

If you're looking at the 203k auction that has already ended remember you have a little leverage on this deal. You can ask them to cover more of the associated fees they are asking for. The worst they can say is no and they might just do it saving you a few dollars in the process. Remember, it's a buyers market!

As I understand it, you can essentially do this via the points credit pool as well - put a later year's points into the pool and use them immediately. I'm not sure how far in advance you can do this, but I believe that Ron Parise mentioned at one point that he had already pooled and used some of his 2013 points.

Story of my life, living on borrowed money:

My 2013 points are already gone...pooled the points, and made the reservations...In another 22 days Ill be able to pool the 2014 points and start using them

Ron has learned so well. I am out of 2012 Wyndham points, too. And out of 2012 RCI Points and have only 15 TPU credits left scattered over 3 deposits.

I have plans for my 2013 Wyndham Points ...

Sounds like you two need to buy some more contracts. Maybe if I gave your names to the Sales Wessals, they might convince you of the benfits of paying them a fortune and buy a bunch more points from them.

Thanks but NO!

You are right about needing more though. .I have a 144000 point "club access" contract moving through the system now...Wyndham just waived their ROFR rights so I should be able to use it in another 2 or 3 months

and Im back to watching ebay everyday.... I think it will be another 6 months or so before I see what Im looking for. I want a contract at one of two particular resorts with the mf paid for 2012

DO the CWA and CWP points co-mingle, or do they have to be used separately?

They emailed me the contract and I asked them to give me until Monday, so that I can read everything over before giving them any money and signing the papers. They're response was that they'll give me until Monday, but they're goint to re-list the auction on eBay over the weekend, in case they get a better offer. I just don't want to feel RUSHED in signing any documents, as they seem to want me to hurry up and send them the money and sign the papers.

My thought process is that if they do get a better offer over the weekend, then that wasn't the timeshare for me to buy anyway. :ponder:

I will say that using the points are points philosophy it seems like a pretty good deal. I don't seem to see very many packages with low mfs that don't get bid up pretty high anyway, so either way you are probably getting a pretty good deal. Just make sure u understand the system so that you know that you really like it. Have you had a chance to read the Wyndham primer on this site yet? Also, if you are new to timeshares ( I am) in my limited research I've found that mfs pretty much double every 15yrs give or take a few yrs. Then again gas was probably $1.50 in 1996. Others on this board probably have more knowledge of this than me. I just hope the fire department is paying me more in 15yrs.

For reservations in the standard and express reservation periods (10 months) the points in my account will co mingle..they have to be used separately for ARP

at least thats my understanding...Ill know in a few months

Oh well, I guess you are not one of those people that P.T. Barnum (of Barnum and Bailey fame) would talk of.

If they do not give time to review the contract, I would be careful.
