Wyndham Platinum reservation discount?

We are Platinum members trying to get our heads wrapped around the 50% reservation discount. I understand that inside the 60 day window we can receive the discount, and we have done the double booking to ensure the reservation.
At "updates" however we have been told that as Platinum members we are entitled to this or some other discount outside of the 60 day window. And that we don't have to play that game anymore. This was told to us more than once, after we were platinum and frankly at points where the sales guy say,"Look, I know you're not gonna upgrade anything, let's just go for that quick walk and then take you to get your gift cards." So not necessarily just a unicorn!!(Maybe)??

So can anyone shed some light on what they were talking about and any deals we might be missing?

Thanks

When you want to take advantage of discount period is it best to book a resort then cancel one during discount period or book just the one and cancel and rebook same reservation? In this case there shows availability, and discounts start sept 1st

So your availability is showing again?

If you have the points to do both, I don't see why not book what you want and a back-up booking, so that you have the back-up booking if your cancel-rebook fails. That way, you still have your desired reservation, whether you managed to get 50% off points or not...If cancel-rebook works, cancel the second resv. If it fails, then you still have the other full points booking available.

Me too

I am a Gold VIP and was told the same thing - they even gave it a name, the "Voyager" program. So when I went to get my 35% discount on an upcoming stay I was told by the guy in reservations he didn't know anything about getting a points discount for every booking immediately and had never heard of the program but that I'd have to cancel and rebook to get the discount. So I did (there were still plenty of openings so I didn't have to worry about losing the vacation.) They were trying to sell me on the idea that having discounted points is like having cast to pay of maintenance fees. But their conversion from points to payoff maintenance fees (somewhere around $220 for 100,000 points) is horrible as is the Rewards program conversion of $60 for 10,000 points.

Voyager is a rocket shot into space. You as I have much yet to learn. If it's not in the book it does not exist.

Best to start there and learn it and when you learn it,
and got it down, read it again. Then it time to learn here.
I had a resale since 1988, and waited used it learned went to presentations never bought into Wyndham program until 2013. I could start to see why. fOR ME
Thats what was best. Voyager is not in the book!

voyager was the code name for the new reservation system. It was scrapped. It would not have allowed you to get a discount on an existing reservation. The discount is only for new reservations made within the discount window. That is why you had to cancel and rebook.

Not exactly scrapped, locked in (software) developer limbo.

Cancel-rebook is not in the book, either. That is because it's an exploit of a poorly designed system. They never intended for an owner to be able to c-r a resv to achieve express reservation discount. Sales weasels, of course, have always been more than happy to coach it in order to get a sale and their commission.

There are things that exist, but are not in the book because they don't particularly want owners to know about the possibilities.

That's exactly why I am here now! I did back in the1990' s
come on tug and at one time had a membership.
Since I only had 154000 points and have had little to no problems getting what i wanted , haven't been on much
it was only $10 back then, went up 50% since then
Have resale points? Lol
