We haven't stayed there so I can't help other than to remind you that you can check the resort database and see if there are any recent reviews until someone else has a chance to weigh in.

stayed there this past april for 3 weeks, family of 4. no beach really within a reasonable walking distance. we stayed in a unit immediately west of the office, in a 2 bdrm, one level, upper floor. backed onto the golf course. was nice and quiet. pools were good, rooms were clean, but getting tired.

if you have any other q's don't hesitate to msg me

I had a 2BR unit there in April 2010. No beach that you can walk to . . . our unit was nicely furnished . . . and the WiFi cost around $20 for the week as I recall.

I just wandered around the resort today and went inside a 2BR unit. As stated earlier, there is no beach nearby within walking distance but are some great views from some units as it is along the water and beside the Kona CC golf course. The resort is shared with Shell and split between the 2 management companies. Shell looks after the grounds and exterior of the buildings.

The interiors of the units managed by Shell have nicer soft goods but all the units have the same layout. The Wyndham units are scheduled for a refurbishment starting in Aug and partial completion in Oct. The carpets, furniture, etc are supposed to be replaced. Only half the units will be done and the date for the other half has not been determined.

Wifi is $17.95 for 3 days or $29.95 for the week.

Just back from a week at the Shell portion, which we really liked. Low key, small-ish scale feel compared to the large resorts and very nicely redone. We did not get an ocean view but were very happy with our spacious 1 BDRM with greenery view. Large lanai, large nicely redecorated unit. Helpful staff. Free Wi-Fi. Large shopping center with grocery etc. about 2 miles away. The Sheraton is right next door, a short walk away and anytime you want more activity or a drop dead view happy hour this is the place.

We were in building 16 unit 100. Overlooked the "road", but it is closed to car traffic, so only some fairly peaceful and quiet foot traffic. Had trouble finding a resort map before we left, so have a serviceable copy of the one we were given on arrival which I tried to attach, but could not find a way to do this. PM me if you would like a copy.

As I recall from when I owned there, Mauna Loa Village was originally built as condos, and went into timesharing after the fact. The complex has a residential quietness about it, as it was never intended to be a destination resort. It's an excellent base camp for exploring the island, or is a fine getaway for those who want to kick back with lots of peace and quiet. I enjoyed staying there. I think you will, too, as long you keep in mind the history of the place. If you want flashy activities and nightlife, this is not the place for you.

Best thing I liked about MLV was that it's at Keahou Bay, at the south end of Ali'i Drive, south of Kona. Gets you well ahead of the crowd if you're heading south, but the highway is very close if you want to head north.

We stayed there last year and liked that we could walk to the hotel next door for drinks but preferred the properties on Alli drive for location

We have stayed at MANY Hawaiian timeshares and this one was the best! It is SOOO Hawaiian that the bathtub is four-legged (with jacuzzi spouts); the doors are Koa wood, the dining 'room' is really on the lanai like the Hawaiians have in their own homes. I believe we had no charge for our computer in the unit; but they have a computer room where you do pay for usage. The grounds also are unique -- like rock swimming pool.

It is true that it is not near the water, but within 10 minutes you can drive to it. It's close to Kona with the restaurants. The grounds are beautiful. It is furnished well, very good size.

Unit numbers, etc...

Is anyone familiar with the unit number assignments so I can ask for a second floor unit? Wyndham Gold owner. Planning a trip this July and I was told to get an upper level unit.

We love staying here and also often stay at Kona Hawaiian resort down the road closer to town so familiar with both (BTW, Cathy's sounds more like KHR than Mauna. Loa does have a dining room inside). Most two bedroom units are 2 story with the bedrooms downstairs and living areas upstairs.

The water is a very short walk down the hill and you can watch rowing teams take off from there, so it is not a "beach" but is "water."

I like that there are 7 pools to choose from ( unlike KHR which only has 2) and they are seldom crowded.

I have photos but also information is on my BLOG when we have been ... Several times

There are some 2 br 1st floor units for those who have trouble with stairs. The 2nd floors of these units would be upper level. I think they are located near the main office. Personally I think it is more important to avoid units along the road. There is a lot of truck traffic to the hotel next door and it can be very noisy early in the am.
