Checking in tomorrow for 5 nights. We stayed last Sept. at the HGVC Las Vegas. We have a car because we like to explore, but always take cabs at night if we have a drink, just to avoid any problems.

Any close by restaurants that are good? Or any other info? We have a conference at the Venetian that we will attend a few events, but otherwise we will have plenty of time. We have done Hoover Dam.

Any other suggestions? We like night life, but we are over 40 so no wild stuff. And we like good food. I know buffets are popular there, and we did some last year. What about other nice restaurants.

Thanks to all in advance,
cindy

If you have time duringthe day, the valley of fire (50 Min north of LV)and red rock canyon (30 min from the strip) are not to be missed. If you go to red rock, check out the Rampart Casino located at the Marriott on the way. Good food, low prices and a nice upscale casino.

Cindy,

The Grand Desert has a free shuttle from the resort to Harrahs every 1/2 hour until 10:30 pm. After 10:30 pm to midnight, you can come back on the Rio shuttle by showing your Grand Desert card key. You are dropped off and picked up on the back side of Harrahs.

The resort has lots of fun activities for adults and families. They had a black jack tournament that was fun and had fun prizes. There is a small grocery on site as well as a deli/snack counter in Building 1. Between Buildings 1 and 2, there are 3 hot tubs in the main pool area, 2 large pools (1 for adults). Building 3 has its own pool and hot tub.

I enjoyed 2 shows, Mama Mia and the Cirque de Soliel Love show. Have a great time!

We stayed there last spring. The restaurant I liked the best was the Border Grill, a Mexican one at Mandalay Bay. Had the best non-blended margarita I've ever had! Well, actually it's the only non-blended margarita I've ever had and it was fabulous. :D

One of our stops is a "local" favorite - "Battista's Hole In The Wall" behind Harrah's. Don't get too hammered on the all you can drink wine - take the shuttle back!

I thought Border Grill was overpriced, but then, I'm not on vacation.

If you go out to Red Rock, go to the Red Rock Casino. It is really pretty inside, and they have a decent BBQ restaurant and some other restaurants.

This weekend there is an Indian Pow-Wow at the Nevada State Museum out on Boulder Highway. Pick up a Review-Journal and see what else is happening.

If you like a good steak at a reasonable price (mid-20's) in a nice restaurant, try Silverado Steakhouse at South Point. If you don't feel like driving they run a shuttle from Mandalay Bay.

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
We had a wonderful lunch today at the new Tommy Bahama's Tropical Cafe at Town Center. It is attached to the new Tommy Bahama store. The Town Center shopping area is south of Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Blvd. across from Callaway Golf. There are several nice restaurants in the Center as well as a lot of nice stores & a movie theater, and it's a very pleasant place to walk around. The weather today and the forecast for the weekend is perfect for strolling and eating outside, and it's a very nice respite from the action on the Strip.

Just got back ourselves

My sister and I just got back. We liked this resort. We took the tour of the resort and got three 25 restaurant certificates. We spent them at the Paris buffet which was great and then had a light lunch with the last one the following day at the Boulangerie which was also at the Paris Casino. This is a good resort that will be great once stuff starts sprouting up around it. Needless to say, we passed on the sale opportunity but we may eventually buy off of ebay. Funtime
