Desert Blue in Las Vegas (behind the Rio) has been open since March. I assume that they've been selling weeks at Grand Desert for quite awhile now.

Has anyone seen any weeks turn up yet on RCI?

Or is there even availability for Wyndham owners to trade in?

Would love to get in through RCI. Grand Desert is getting pretty tired..

They are bringing it up floor by floor, and it is supposed to take a couple years for the whole resort to be open and available. I wouldn't expect to see much, if any, inventory on RCI for awhile.

We Wyndham owners cannot choose a week to deposit to RCI (trade in as you put it). We deposit our points and Wyndham chooses the weeks that become available to RCI members

If you want to use your Wyndham points to book a week at Desert Blue, is there availability, Ron? Or so few units open that there isn't much?

There seems to be a lot of availability to book nights there through the hotel booking sites..

Not Ron, but other than around the holidays there is all kinds of availability.

Why would you want to stay there? Its a sh*tty location. Especially compared to Grand Desert.

It looks to be a lot nicer than Grand Desert (or any of the other off-strip Las Vegas timeshares). The last time we stayed at Grand Desert (maybe 3 years ago) it was getting pretty run down (the units); at least the unit we stayed in.

I don't think the location of Desert Blue is really any worse than Grand Desert; Grand Desert is a pretty long walk over to the strip..

Well, I certainly wouldn't WALK to The Strip, or even The Rio, or anywhere else from Desert Blue. It is in a very industrial area (even though The Rio is right behind it). I would definitely recommend renting a car if you stay there, and using it. If you don't like that recommendation, don't come running to me if you get mugged.

I always rent a car every time I am in Vegas, and stay at the Grand Desert. Last time I was there the rooms seemed fine. The Grand Desert has a very convenient access to the back side of the strip and easy cross access to get to the west side. I minimize my time on the Strip itself.

That being said, I would not want to stay at Desert Blue even if it is nicer, because it is in a funky area that I might not feel comfortable leaving my rental car in the lot, and definitely would NOT feel comfortable walking around that neighborhood even in broad daylight. I don't get that seedy feeling at Grand Desert.

I also don't understand the obsession with walking around to and from the strip, don't you walk enough when you get inside the massive casinos? Valet for me all day, every day!

I wouldn't have any issues parking my car in their lot, but I agree with you about walking. Walking options are through Rio to Flamingo and over the freeway (a pretty long walk, and you are walking across Rio's back parking lot), or down Twain under the freeway to the backside of Caesars Palace. My biggest concern would be that there is little police presence along there, inviting evildoers.

The neighborhood itself looks seedier than it actually is. I see more riff-raff walking Tropicana on either side of the Strip, but police do routinely cruise both sides.

If you do have or rent a car, access from Blue is to the back end of the West side of the Strip, just as access from Grand Desert is to the back end of the East side of the Strip.

In the 70s, our family would sometimes drive the strip from downtown to the Hacienda, then U-Turn and drive it back. I wouldn't do that today, it would take too long.

I've just seen Desert Blue from I-15. Isn't it just across the street from the rear of The Rio? I would think that the area isn't any worse than around Trump. Trump is closer to Industrial and all the nudie bars. Our unit at Trump earlier this year was on the backside and our view was of the nudie bar that's right behind Trump. But that wouldn't stop me from staying at HGVC Trump again..maybe that's why Trump only has Valet parking?

I always have a car when I go to Vegas so it really doesn't matter to me what
is in walking distance. The quality of the unit is what I look for first. While I often stay on the Strip at an HGVC location, I do my gambling at locals joints and skip the Strip casinos.

Speaking of seedy areas....I wanted to finally see Jerry's Nugget and did that on my last trip. What a dump. I walked around the place and walked right back out to my car. Now THAT's a seedy area. I don't think I'd walk around there even in the daytime...

The difference is that Trump is accessible from the walkable Strip. Stratosphere is adjacent to one of the worst neighborhoods in Las Vegas, but is accessible from the Strip.

And Northtown around Jerry's Nugget was bad even when I lived up there in the 70s, and has gotten worse.
