Needless to say, this is a crazy week in our nation's capital. Many visitors have canceled their trips to the area. Unfortunately, Wyndham is following their usual policies and not returning points back for cancellations at Alexandria and National Harbor. Do you agree with Wyndham? Or do you think a full refund is more appropriate.

Note that AirBNB has forced cancellations in the area. Even if travelers and hosts wish to continue, AirBNB has canceled everything this week.

Did Wyndham close Alexandra and/or National Harbor? If not, no. There are a few things to do in DC other than the mall. If they did close: yes.

The 2020 Covid madness continues into 2021. Should be another interesting year. I would not want to be renting points in todays environment.

I think Wyndham should refund due to the current situation.

AirBnb is cancelling because of reports of armed militia and hate groups attempting to travel to the D.C. Metro area for the inauguration. At first they were cancelling if they were able to determine the renters were suspected to fall in that category, then 2 days later just cancelled everything.

Bummer for people who planned for a long time to rent for the inauguration (or go to the inauguration). But I for one am thankful I don't have any rentals there for the inauguration.

My initial reaction was that AirBNB was overreacting by canceling EVERYTHING in the area.

But if you consider that the DC area is full of liberal leaning people and minorities of all types, then it makes sense. Liberal hosts with Biden signs on the lawn can easily get into fights with guests in MAGA hats and Trump signs.

Did you see the latest email? Health Officer has reduced the occupancy of units.

So this will pave the way to have points returned. You can't book something that sleeps 8 and then they only allow 5.

I cancelled one at Alexxandria and one at National Harbor on Thursday and they gave me my points back. Both were for the 18th to the 25th.

Thanks Bendadin! I was told to call AFTER my stay ends on 1/18 to request a points refund from Owner Care. National Harbor shows the following:
Prince George’s County has issued a 1 person per 200 sq. ft. mandate. While in effect, occupancy for suite types must be reduced and cannot be exceeded at any time, and is as follows:
  • 1 Bedroom Deluxe: 4
  • 2 Bedroom Deluxe: 5
  • 3 Bedroom Deluxe: 6
  • 2 Bedroom Presidential: 6
  • 3 Bedroom Presidential: 8
  • 4 Bedroom Presidential: 10
So I will tell them that there were 6 people in my party, and we were prohibited from using our 2BR unit.

Email from Wyndham? If so, guessing that only went to people with reservations.

I booked a reservation forever ago when my waiting to be sworn in law kid considered attending the inauguration. But he had to negative Covid, 4 day quarantine, negative Covid his way in the New York so that was that.

Looks like Wyndham will refund my points. Thanks to Bendadin for recommending that I pursue this.

It's always worth the asking, the worst they can say is no. :)
