Been watching eBay for a deal, example # 350145518018 . I just don't see how a red week anywhere is worth this much. In a nutshell what makes the HGVC program so great? The MF seem VERY high to me.

Do a little research by reading past posts in this forum. People have paid much more than $5K for a week in the Hilton system -- actually, $5K is quite a bargain! With the HGVC point system, one of the main benefits is that it is very flexible, and you can stretch your "week" into several vacations, change to different sized rooms, stay for non-standard lengths (doesn't always need to be 7 days), convert to hotel points, bank / borrow points from year to year, trade w/ RCI, etc.

In a nutshell, if you don't value those benefits then HGVC is not a system for you -- you would be better off sticking w/ the traditional timeshare "week".

Vegas & Orlando tend to have lower MF's. The weeks go in the thousands of $ largely due to an ROFR Hilton maintains.

This system is flexible and offers quite a bit to members/owners. It's one of the higher rated systems for this reason. As I've learned now that I own several weeks of HGVC and non-HGVC's, there is a premium to the HGVC weeks and there is a level of quality HGVC delivers along with it. If higher end properties aren't as important to you, then it may not be worth the added costs.
