Don't know if this is a system problem or a bunch of rooms just got released for Kalia Tower starting January 2009.

Update: These are rooms available for reservation on the HGVC online member website.

Amazing!

Wow. I just checked over the weekend and there wasn't a single availability even in July (start of club season). I didn't check back to January, but like you said, every category is now available for the Kalia tower. Amazing! I wonder what kind of games HGVC is playing. Btw, I'm looking for 7/11-7/18 so I'm anxiously waiting.

Could it be because the new resort, Waikikian will be fully operational?

My theory is that HGVC closed off rooms in Kailia and Lagoon Tower to accommodate owners of Waikikian until it was open for Home Week Reservation.

Or, HGVC techs are still kicking out the bugs from the upgraded online reservation system.

I just notice that hilton.com is taking reservation at the Grand Waikikian.
Perhaps they released some inventory from the rental pool since Grand Waikikian is now able to take reservations at hilton.com

Perhaps but Grand Waikikian was open to all club members on August 1.
I'm assuming owners had a chance to book their home week before August 1 since it was open to Elite Member earlier see this thread -

OP: Thanks for the heads up. I've been checking periodically (well, when I happen to think of it while at the computer) for a couple of months, hoping to change my late winter Acapulco reservation to Honolulu since I'll miss my annual fall Hawaii trip next year. Just made the change.

It seems like HGVC was holding back a LOT of inventory in case the Waikikian doesn't open. Contrary to what a saleslady told me last month, it looks the new tower will open in December.

Kalia Avaiulability

WMMMMM
I nailed down our reservation for 7/11 to 7/18 in a 2br which would be a home week reservation. We need another unit since we are a group of 8 and a number of our family has HGVC ownership. I have been checking and didn't see much until today. The Kalia is totally open fron Jan to July. We can't make our reservation for the other unit until the 18th so I hope there still is something available.
We will be there this Dec 2nd thru the 8th and we will be staying in the GW from the 6th thru the 9th. They told us the GW will open on the 6th.
I wonder where all this availability came from? Maybe with the ecomomy tanking it made sence to open up the units to us. I read yesterday that Hawaii lost $156 million in tourist dollars this last summer season and it the busiest time in Waikiki. If the gloom persists you can imagine the losses next summer.

I'm an Elite member and I'm entertaining the idea of staying at the Grand Waikikian (requiring way too many points:) ) Even so, I don't see any availabilities except for a few days of Studio in July. I just can't see that many HGVC members with that many points to fully book almost all three (now two) resorts.

It sure looks like that is what HGVC did -- they held back space as a contingency if the Waikikian would not open on time. That is the only thing that really makes any sense, given that such a large block of space became available all at once. No way could that be from economic factors, not all at once.

This theory was discussed in previous threads and it seems we were right on the money with this one.

My wife is spoiled. We will never not stay in a 2-bedroom unit and never will until our kids are not coming with us (youngest is 13). Next year will be the first year that we will not be able to book our home unit because we've already used almost all our 2009 points so we have to borrow. Hence the wait.

As for the economy, that makes it more perplexing on the un-availability of units. I know that timeshare are pre-paid vacations but it still hurts to pay the high airfare. If I am not an Elite member, I wouldn't pay the reservation fee until I'm almost 100% that I will go.
