If you read the story, they did just that, followed the umbilical cord and found the newborn baby. It sounds like everyone survived.

No, with a title that silly reading the story didn't sound like it was worth my time.

And the umbilical cord isn't that long so the baby was really, at most, only an arm's length away.

The umbilical cord was still attached to the placenta not the mother. With all the windows blown out it is totally feasible that the unsecured baby could have flown out the car.

Hydroplaning into a poll and a brick wall is not a little accident. Infant is in a NICU not with mom.
