Just got confirmed into WKORV unit 320604. Can anyone tell me if this is a parking lot view. Traded small SDO to get it, so won't complain either way. Just don't want to be disappointed when we show up.

Thanks

FYI, there's conflicting info as to whether or not you'll actually receive the unit on your confirmation. Some say it isn't what you'll be assigned; at least one poster came in afterward to say the confirmed unit was, indeed, what he got.

In any event, 320604 is a two bdrm villa in building 3, floor 2, villas 06/04. Not bad for a trade. Bldg 4 facing the parking lot is the worst case scenario.

Those units would look out on the roof of the pool bar/restaurant.

Thanks for the replies. If I want to call to make a request, do I call the resort or Owner Services?

Thanks

The agent at the reservations number can add the request to your reservation.

I am hoping they wouldn't change my unit number but you are trying to change your unit number?
I have heard that unit number might not mean a thing. They most likely will change it at the check in.
Or they might actually give you that unit which I will be very surprised.

I understand that Starwood manages the unit assignments accordingly...

1.) - Home resort owners get the view they own. WKOR owners will have their requests fulfilled based on what they want and if their ownership allows it. As an example, they are not going to give an ocean view owner an ocean front villa.
2.) - SVN exchangers will get their unit requests assigned after WKOR owners are taken care of.
3.) - II/Starwood owners on exchange will get their unit requets assigned after 1 and 2.
4.) - II exchangers pretty much get the run of the house...

I will let you all know after I return.
It seems like the units are deposited with certain units into II.
I don't think II can control that but Starwood could.
If Starwood gave II that week and that unit, I think Starwood should follow up with it unless something better was available at that time of reservation or check in time.

Using that criteria, it might make more sense for an WKORV IV owner to wait until the 8 month mark and trade into WKORV as an SVN trade vs. booking as an owner....

Also, where do elite owners fit into that equation? In between 1 and 2?

Starwood will recognize home resort owners versus SVN reservations either way (even if they were both booked in the 8 month window). In the case where an SVN exchanger (lets say from WMH) books into this resort, they would get the the view that avaiable. In other words, if you owned Island View and an SVN exchanger was also coming on the same week you had reserved....Starwood would possibly upgrade you to ocean view as a result of their room assignment priorities as listed above.....

Don't hold me to this!!! This is how it was when I was with them. Change is a big part of Starwood and whether it is visible to all owners are not, their focus is in the best interest of the owners and making sure they get the most out of their product.

Elite owners would always be in the top of 1 and 2.

So do I call Starwood with my request or will they just know that I am an SVO owner even though I exchanged through II and give me the best available?

Acc. to rule #1: "Home resort owners get the view they own. WKOR owners will have their requests fulfilled based on what they want and if their ownership allows it. As an example, they are not going to give an ocean view owner an ocean front villa."

So an OV owner MAY get an OF villa, for instance, if there are units available during the Home Resort Priority period?

In other words, do they assign owner view priorities first, plugging in the best rooms in their view class in order of how they call in...and then give what's left to the SVN owners who call in at 8 months (including OF, OV, and IV villas):

OR

Do they assign rooms based on your view category, then upgrade OWNERS where they can (e.g. putting OV owners in an OF room, IV owners in OV rooms) and then fill in what's left with SVN traders? Because there's a fairly significant distinction.

P.S. Thanks for being our most excellent resource into the mind of SVN

Stefa - on a II exchange, you don't have any priority as a Starwood owner, but it doesn't hurt to ask. However, your exchange wasn't made through Starwood, so I don't think you can put in a view request through owner services. You could possibly call the resort directly.

Don't forget that Elite Owners have priority for upgrades. Elite owners and Elite SVN exchangers would get upgraded first. Since SW could not meet the demand for Elite upgrades, and stopped guaranteeing it, I'm guessing that demand for upgrades exceeds supply, so a resort would have to have pretty low occupancy for a non-Elite owner to get a significant view upgrade.

That being said, I've been upgraded 3 times, but the first time WKORV was new and it was before the Elite program and I was upgraded to a great OF studio. The other two times (after Elite program started.) I was upgraded from IV to a terrible OV view and a poor OF view. So it looked good on paper, but the views were actually very poor.

This is my not so good OF upgrade view - it was first floor in bldg. B.

You should contact concierge desk at WKORV to request your view. I have a email/phone number if you want it.

When is your exchange?

I'd love the contact info, thanks!

Our exchange is for 12/14-12/21. Hopefully we can beat the Christmas rush. We spend a lot of time in our room so would love a non-highway view, but anywhere in Maui has to be better than Minneapolis in December.
