You must tip in relation to how much of a mess you guys make, right? The more space you have the greater the mess? ;)

My last 1 bed had a 4 no And a 4 yo in it.

I was always taught a dollar a day for the maid. In a hotel room. I scale up from there as it realistically takes at least 3 times as long.

Also it is virtuous. More laundry / dish detergent and paper towel and toilet paper appear.

At WPORV, we left $5 for a 5 day studio stay. We had no mid-stay cleaning, not that we needed it. We took out our garbage on the 4th day after we filled the tiny garbage can.

We all pay maintenance fees which presumably pays for cleaning. So I tend to leave less than I would staying at a hotel.
I realize the cleaning fees probably only trickle down from mgmt to the people that actually do the housekeeping . Am I being unrealistic thinking housekeeping at timeshares get paid any better than at hotels ?

Starwood says they'll charge an extra $30 housekeeping fee for my next 2ND stay in December We own 2 weeks in SVN, so should get 2 housekeeping stays...this is a defect from online reserving and cancelling

Timeshare resorts don't pay better than hotels.

When you pay your hotel bill, or your maintenance fee, some portion of it goes to wages, but that is not the same as leaving a tip.

[Edited: Are you using Staroptions from a previous year? That seems to generate the cleaning fee.]

I make an attempt to find who actually cleaned the room(s) in preparation for me, then hand them $20. Then it's about $3 per day until we leave. Left under the pillow if there is daily service or in an envelope (we bring a few) on the counter if we are gone. Generous? I suppose, but there is usually extra towels/coffee/whatever left for us.

Most times yes, but in my situation I made 2 online reservations using star options from this year for stays this year . The 2nd one did not stipulate extra housekeeping . I made a 3rd reservation which did, and same day cancelled the 2nd reservation. But the last reservation still says I have Xtra housekeeping fee.

$20 for the week for 2 bedroom l/o.

I have yet to figure out the riddle of getting charged housekeeping fees. I've been told several different reasons from reservations. At first I was told I could only make so many reservations a year. Then it was because it wasn't a full week. For a while I thought it was using star options at Sheratons. Really, I have no idea! But it's not banked options. Because I used banked options for both SDO and WKV., full weeks. Got charged at SDO but not at WKV. Got charged at SVV and SVR using Star Options for less than a week.

But you pay more for the hotel room per night so more money there for cleaning, not less.

Theoretically it is based on unit size and rental size.

Own a 2br lo and book 2 x 1 bed. No fees. They would have cleaned that anyway. The third booking will generate HK.

Banking usually messes this up HK does not get banked so if you don't use your 2 bed in 2015 and bank. You don't get 4 HK in 2016.

Further programming in reasy says means it calculates at time of booking and never again.

Res 1 no hk
Res 2 no HK
Res 3 hi
Cancellation res 2.
Still pay hi on res 3 without a manual adjustment.

Under this assumption then I would be able to have 6 reservations without HK fees. I own 3 2 bedroom l/o a year. At the very least I should be able to make 3 reservations a year without fees. Although I don't understand why I get any fees because if I bank my SO from one year and don't use my HK fees from my MFs in that year, why the heck am I getting charged them in the use year??
In the example I am using my reservations for 2015. This year I had my WLR home resort, then full weeks WKV then SDO using banked SO (back to back). I was charged HK fees at SDO only. SVV, using banked SOs but was told that it was because I was not there an entire week. Then I had my home resort usage at Maui without HK fees, twice. Makes no sense on how they apply HK fees.

Yes. 6 reservations of those sizes.
I think the twisted logic on banking is someone is using the banked points and thus using the HK

Correct, you are entitled to six cleanings of a 1-bed/studio or three cleanings of a 2-bed unit in the use year.

Welcome to SVN. Some fees are assessed...because they can. This is one of them. Care to guess if the HOA receives any of those cleaning fees?

I assume "full weeks" means 2-bed units. It seems you have two more similar sized unit, or four 1-bed, cleans for the year available. You will be charged for banked options, or whenever you exceed the included number of cleanings in a use year (that's what happens to me, since I typically stay in a 1-bed and often exceed the number of stays).

SVV, using banked SOs but was told that it was because I was not there an entire week. Then I had my home resort usage at Maui without HK fees, twice. Makes no sense on how they apply HK fees.

I've found that resort staff, believe it or not, are simply not trained sufficiently on how SVN works to understand when certain fees are applied or not. It is frustrating when I know I understand more about their system than they do, and I'm sure this applies to many TUG members.

And while we're on the topic of cleaning... When staying for a week I normally request the resort clean after four nights, not after their default three nights, and request it not be cleaned early in the morning. Over the last three years at WKORV the front desk staff, or over the phone when I call within 24 hours of checkin after I realize the front desk didn't even tell me when the cleaning was scheduled, and they type the request into the computer and tell me not to worry. Needless to say, over the last three years or more the update doesn't get to housekeeping and they show up at 9:30 on the default day. Last time I was here I spoke with housekeeping and management about it and they said they didn't know why it didn't work and they'd look into it. Guess what? I heard the exact same story this trip as well. WKORV, in particular, has had a definite lessening of communication between departments, and I suspect it's due to lack of training since there's no question the front desk and other staff are typing the request somewhere but it's not getting to the right people. After years of the same problem, I admit that I'm a bit frustrated with the issue. Westin (still) has a great name but this resort needs better communication and training. It's hard to admit, but I've recently seen better trained staff at Four Points hotels and that's just surprising to me. Even Harborside can get these requests correct... :)
