I've been trying to reserve a week at either WKORV using SO. I check the day before 8mo check-in date and lots of availability but when I try to book exactly at midnight, I get a response saying the unit is no longer available and to call customer service. This has been going on for a week.

I called SVN and was told that most likely other owners are beating me to it. Just wondering if this happened to other owners.

Yes - both north and south are booking solid the second the reservation window opens at midnight. This has been going on for all of the popular 2016 dates. Tough to get a reservation!

Are you trying at 11:00pm Central Time (since I see you're in Chicago)?

I've noticed a similar odd thing with SVN online reservations when looking for WSJ availability. I was "practicing" during the past couple of weeks by putting in a reservation date 8 mo + 2 days in future, with the checkbox for variable dates marked. The system would return several items for 3 bdrm units with the dates of when the reservation period is open. Almost always only listed 3 bdrms, but occasionally a 2 bdrm. But when I ran same search about 10 minutes before the reservation window opened (9 pm PDT), the search returned nothing. And then nothing again when I re-ran search at 9 pm.

But don't give up, you'll get something eventually. I did

Could it be that owners are reserving units up to the very last day before the 8 month mark?

Or they're being scooped up for Elite wait-list requests?

Thank you all for the responses. I guess I just need to figure out the perfect second to click that submit button :)

That makes a lot of sense  thanks!
I'm not 5 star, nor never will be, so didn't think about that perk.
Yeah maybe a batch file runs at a certain time each night before midnite, and matches unreserved villas to the wait-list requests. The leftovers are then made available to all others.

I've been told by two elite reps this process is manual (twice a day)...So, this is not the reason. I know they are misinformed, but I see no reason why their answers match?

I know this has been the case in the past and proved it by pre-emptively booking my wait-listed reservation as soon as it showed up online, and before I received a call.

HOWEVER, lately I have noticed a change in the online reservations tool where a canceled reservation frequently does not return the availability back to the pool. In fact, I canceled a reservation of mine for sold-out holiday dates expecting to be able to immediately rebook a shorter trip, but the dates remained sold-out. The phone representatives were also unable to find or rebook the dates. This was a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend, and the inventory specialists weren't scheduled to return until Tuesday. I figured the reservation was pretty much a goner, but no, I got a call on Tuesday morning and my reservation was rebooked.

I've experienced this as well. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with being elite. I think this is more proof of an inferior online reservation system. I have canceled weeks via reps and very frequently the rep has to email inventory control to modify the reservation I just real asked to modify. Not sure why they don't go into the general pool immediately. It seems like a human needs to manually release them into the general pool. But, of course, sometimes they can be retrieved immediately.

Hmm, very interesting about the manual processing of wait list.

I think canceled or released days being held out of general pool for awhile isn't bad. Could function as a safety net if someone unintentionally cancels a coveted reservation. I can see having a slip of the mouse on that "Available Actions" drop down list on a ressie.

If you click on the link, it takes you to another page where you have to confirm you want to cancel, so it would be pretty difficult to cancel accidentally.

Yes a confirmation page.stops most people from shooting themselves in the foot . But I support very intelligent and technical people on a S/W application and some of them unknowingly get past a confirmation too . I've clicked on the wrong button while simultaneously knowing that I am, but can't stop myself . So I'm glad for an extra safety measure, however unintentional, that helps retrieve reservations.
