We are thinking of using are staroptions for a reservation in Hawaii this late falll (Oct/Nov). This may be a very stupid question: It is not clear to me the differences, if any, between WKORV and WOKRV-N. Could someone explain? Thanks.

To me the only diference that matters is:

WKORV is bigger units (sq ft) and better kitchen. WKORV[N] has no oven.

Therefore I always get WKORV.

I think you meant that WKORVN has no oven - WKORV 1Bd Dlx units do have an oven.

If view is important to you, WKORV has some Island View units with a very poor view, but I think over-all you have a better chance for a better Ocean View at WKORV, especially since you are going during the lowest season.

You want to make your reservation quickly and then get off the phone to get that time stamp. Then go to www.mystarcentral.com and use the reservation special request feature there to request a specific view. I would request top floor as my first priority and as close to the ocean as possible. Specify that you do not want Bldg. C - which has the worst views and the dreaded island (highway) view.

In Owner Resources, under "Maps," you can see maps of both resorts. As well as links to both resorts, under "Resort Info."

Denise,

I haven't gone through the reservation process yet. What is this timestamp and how/when do you get it?

You want to call at exactly 8 mos. out at 8:59 a.m. ET. Once your reservation is confirmed it gets a time stamp from Starwood. That time stamp will determine your place in the pecking order among Staroptions exchangers checking in at the same time you do. There is nothing that you actually do with the time stamp and it won't be on your reservation or anything, but that's why you want to make your reservation quickly and get off the phone, rather than having a long conversation and discussing anything that you don't have to.

Why would you say "over-all you have a better chance for a better Ocean View at WKORV"?

Because North has fewer terrible views, but I think WKORV has more units with good ocean views. Even some of the ocean front units at WKORVN have not so good views.

I'm not a fan of the view coding at North, but I have to disagree that you have a better chance of getting a better ocean view at south. The entire north side of Bldgs 7 and 8 at north faces the ocean, and the lot next door is empty. And, of course, having zero parking lot views is a real plus. I'd much rather overlook the top of a palm tree and the pool than a parking lot and highway. And there's no guarantees that a trader won't get assigned an IV.

I think the many Ocean Views at WKORV are nicer than at WKORV-N. However, while the average view is better at the former, the range from good to bad is also greater. If your luck puts you in a bad view you'll be much worse off than at WKORV-N. The worst view at WKORV-N is not nearly as bad as the worst (parking lot "island views") or even second worst (some low floor ocean views towards the back of the buildings) at WKORV.

We purchased North because even the Island View at the North had a "Ocean view" that we saw.

We stayed in an "Ocean View" at the Original WKORV and you had to stretch out over the balcony to see the Ocean. The view was mostly of the pirate ship and the balconies at the North property.

If a parking lot view will kill your vacation than I would say go with the North side.

To say "some of the ocean front units at WKORVN have not so good views" is misleading in my opinion, except maybe when comparing to the ocean front views at WKORVN.

Outside of that context, however, I think there are very few people who would say the WKORVN ocean front unit views "not so good." Can you imagine a single person trading into WKORVN at 8 months, and getting even the worst ocean front unit, and saying the view is "not so good"?

Personally, I think you have a much better chance of an ocean view at WKORVN given that many, if not most, of the island view units actually have partial ocean views overlooking the pool.

I would also disagree with the opinion that the ocean view units at WKORV are generally better than WKORVN.

But again, view preference is just that, a preference.
