First Wednesday in October
Day Trip to Winchester Virginia

Left home mid morning
Route 340 - Rt 7 - Rt 50

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley Gardens off Route 50 Amherst Street.
We already had our tickets for David Rogers' Big Bugs on the grounds of MSV. This special exhibit features tiny creatures created on a huge scale!
Took hundreds of photos of the beautifully landscaped grounds.

The weather was perfect for fall with temps in the mid 70`s with plentiful sunshine and a light breeze.

Next,
Mt Hebron Cemetery and Gatehouse Est. 1844. Rich in history and embraced within a common enclosure. It was added to the National Register of Historic Place in 2009.

We did a little sightseeing, filled up at the Shell Station on Berryville Rd just off I-81, then had a late lunch at Subway.

Next Spring, we would like to spend a few days at the beautifully restored Historic George Washington Hotel, now A Wyndham Grand Hotel located at 103 East Piccadilly.

The Apple Blossom Festival and Parade.and visit some of the historical sights that we are just learning about. (on our way to and/or from our timeshare at Massanutten Resort)

There is so much to see and do
in Winchester-Frederick County.

Sample Itineraries
Civil War History, Gardens. Museums,
Dining, Farmers Markets, Shopping, etc.

We like going down Rte 15 - 29 - 33 on the way to Massanutten as an alternate way to get there. It goes by the Moo Thru in Remington, a few wineries, and some souvenir/antique stores. Gas always seems to cost less on that route near Warrenton, too.

The Moo Thru is an ice cream shop run by some dairy farmers; I highly recommend it. They have a generous military/first responder discount, which I think they had extended to medical folks, too, but don’t have a sign saying that. I believe it was 50% off limited to $10 last time we were there.

Is Rte 15-29 the back roads/scenery route to Massanutten. It is beautiful.
