Hi Friends,

We are going in October and I have a week banked with II so I want to use it... but I can't tell from the pics on line which I would like.....

Theresa, you have to tell us what you are looking for first.

Availability in Billsburg is usually abundant. Most of the resorts there are great. I would try the properties with either Marriott or Diamond.

I would go for Marriotts Manor Club, but I might take a Wmsbg. Plantation if it has a full kitchen.October should be a fairly easy trade.

Wyndham Governors Green is really nice as well. Yes this resort trades with II. One of the few Wyndhams to do so.

I have stayed in a two BR at both the Marriott as well as Greensprings Plantation. Greensprings is now owned by Diamond, so I would think that they have corrected the problems we encountered.

I prefer the Marriott - I had absolutely nothing negative to say about the experience (Feb, 2007). You can't go wrong with Marriott!

The units at Greensprings were fine, with the following exceptions:

- Indoor pool was not in operation, and had been closed for maintenance for several months before and after our visit (July, 2007).

- Had wooden deck that was in dire need of replacement. Warped boards, popped nails that you would stub your toes/feet on. Marriott had nice balconies that were screened in.

- Beds were uncomfortable (but that was one of the first things Diamond was to replace).

- There were no elevators (Marriott did have them). Carrying all your stuff to the third floor was a hassle.

- Master bath was not very nice and the layout of the jacuzzi tub was a pain.

The only thing that I preferred at Greensprings, was that they had much better parking for each building, not as cramped.

I would stay at either of these resorts again.

I was just at W-burg Plantation. Units are fairly large, Plenty of room for 4 people, Sleeping six id possible, but the extra two are on a sofa bed.
FYI, Limited kitchens are usually upstairs units and the only difference is instead of a stove/oven there is a two burner unit for cooking. We've never found this to be a problem since cooking on two burners and a microwave is sufficient.

The resort has two pools and tennis courts. There are also plenty of daily activities at the resort (some require a fee), though they might be more limited in the Fall.

I would suggest you skip the "90 minute" tour, unless you want the "gift" and have a half day to kill. While they won't pester you to attend, once you get there the "heat is on".

If you plan on spending time at Colonial Williamsburg, check out their Evening Programs, especially the Grand Medley of Entertainment. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

I have stayed at Governors Green and really liked it. We also stayed at Patriot's Place for a night it was quiet, nice, spacious but the beds were awful and the mattresses need to be replaced.

You can never go wrong with the Marriott but the cottages at King's Creek are great. If you can get a 2 bedroom, ( stay away from the 1 bedroom) they are huge. The main floor is kitchen, dinning and a huge living room with a big screen TV and up stairs are two big bedrooms. The only down side is the don't have one of the fancy bath suites.

The facility has a huge indoor pool and fitness center ( a outdoor pool too)

If you join TUG you can read detailed reviews of all the resorts mentioned.

We have stayed at the Marriott Fords Colony several times (original plus sequel), Plantation several times (older + newer), and Fairfield. All were comfortable, none, IMHO, deserved a five star rating, partly on cleanliness, and partly because the resorts themselves didn't have much to offer. Re cleanliness, superficially all were fine, but behind and under furniture, pool areas, etc were not good. The indoor pool is important to us, and I'd put the Plantation's pool way at the bottom of the list. The Plantation's older units have the advantage of a HUGE jacuzzi and a sauna right in the unit.

Trades are easy. If you trade into the Plantation be aware that in some units you just get a mini-kitchen - bar sink, mini fridge, and so forth.

This year we're trying for Kings Creek instead.

Hi!

Thank you!!!

So, I just saw the Greensprings Vacation Resort and also the Historic Powhatan...

anyone like that?

I think I am a member of TUG.... I will go see the reviews....
(Do you mean a paid member??? oh oh, that might be a different story- I didn't join yet)

thank you for your suggestions.

(I did bank a 2 BR so as long as there is availability I would like a 2BR)

Just returned from Greensprings Plantation. Absolutely loved it. I've been to places like Westin Mission Hills, Sheraton Desert Oasis and Oasis Lakes at the Fountains. So, I've been to some nice resorts. We took our family there and really had a great trip.

My Williamsburg ranking of resorts: Marriott's Manor Club, Greensprings Vacation Resort, Fairfield Governor's Green, The Townes and Cottages at King Creek Plantation, Westgate Historic, Colonial Crossing and Powhatan Plantation.

Enjoy your week in Colonial Williamsbyrg.

wow

so- it turns out that right now, I can get a 2BR at
Greensprings, Westgate, plantation (both... seems there are 2) and the townes at kings creek....

Seems to be leaning towards Greensprings.

The units there are quite large?
and the pool is nice? (for kids too?)

thank you so much!!!

Townes have the largest units. The 2BR is actually a 3BR with the third BR being a sitting room off the master with a TV and sleep sofa. I actually like the resort also. There has been a lot of development there lately and it is right next to Water Country.

We stayed in a 3 bd at Governor Green last month and it was very large and nice. Tennis, mini golf, pools, hot tubs. Most of the time we were at BG or water country except one day (overcast/drizzly) I shopped and DH/kids spent day & evening at the game room. It was $5 per day for the unit and apparently was cool (4 kids 9 - 15). The game room was not located at GG but at another Wyndham close by.

Greensprings is very spacious. I would guess about 1200 sq ft, plus a very lovely balcony.

I was there last time in August 2007, when the indoor pool was under renovation and the outdoor one was not heated. If both are fixed, the pool should be very nice.

We were at Greensprings in early June. Our first 4 days the temperature was over 100 degrees. The pool still seemed more than adequate. I think most people are traveling around the parks and historic areas during the day anyway. We had 4 adults (one who had recently had leg surgery) plus an 8 month old. So we didn't do much sightseeing. As far as the pool being heated, for us, it was too warm the first few days and then I think they must have added some cool water. Not sure if it was so warm because of a heating system or just because for May/June, the weather had been warmer than usual. Either way, the pool was nice. Everyday the had treats by the pool like root beer floats, sundaes, etc. They were FREE. I love it when places don't nickle and dime you. Most resort have these kinds of things, but most either charge a minimal fee or charge way too much. Free is great. How nice to be able to treat the "kids" young and old to something every afternoon for free.

Our unit was very spacious and we had asked for a first floor unit because of the recent surgery. The honored all our requests. Be aware that some buildings are 4 floors with no elevators. I would not want to carry all our luggage up those stairs.

The had nice areas to barbeque (charcoal grills not gas), most units backed up to open space or the golf course.

We would return and highly recommend.

I have online photo albums of the two resorts we've stayed at in Williamsburg if it helps you. Just click on the pictures and it should take you directly to each album. Keep in mind that Greensprings Plantation has dropped the Plantation part of the name and I believe they are i the process of refurbishing the units.
