Hi!

I currently have a 2bedroom b unit reserved for 8/19 through PlantinumExchange. I really wanted the colonies, but so far no 2 bedroom ones in the summer. (there is one, but it is over Labor day and we already have plans for that weekend)

I have to book by Monday or it gets released.

I have until mid April to make an exchange.

Is this a nice resort?
Located close to restaurants?
Nice pool area?
Activities for kids?

How are the units? Are some much older and need reno's?

Any help would be appreciated!

I am not sure if this is the same place we stayed in years ago - it had "Plantation" in the resort name and we traded thru RCI. The unit was ok - but not very clean. In fact, we complained when we got there and had someone come to clean it. We did like the fact that the shower was a steam shower. The pool area was nice - indoor/outdoor. Very convenient to Busch Gardens and Virginia Beach, etc. Restaurants in area were fine. We liked our stay there overall, although I can;t say it was one of our favorite resorts. There is an historic mansion on the premises which was beautiful. Like I said, I am not sure this is the same resort.

Sounds more like Powhatan, and WP trades thru II. WP should be OK, just watch out for the partial kitchens-they are more like no kitchens.

Thanks for the replies.

Tony, what do you mean by OK? that scares me a little. It is a gold crown property so I was hoping for nicer ammenities. Are there section or areas to request that have newer/nicer units? How is the pool area?

I am not too worried about partial kitchen as long as we have a coffee maker, refrig, toaster and microwave. I don't really plan on cooking except for breakfast.

We are using platinum exhange this time. We are RCI members. I didn't want to deposit my week in order to see what is available, because if we couldn't get something that worked for us, we are/were going to keep our week in the Berkshires. Plantinum allows us to book something and then deposit, which we liked.

Williamsburg Plantation is just okay from a resort persepctive. The units will be fine. The B unit has a partial kitchen, but full fridge. I believe that in many of the units it is upstairs in a townhouse style set up. There is an outdoor pool.

It is about 1.5 miles to the outlet mall and there are a hand full of restaurants around that area. Many better restaurants are 5-10 minutes away. You are not more than 10-15 minutes to Colonial Williamsburg. When you are closer to the date, repost and ask for recommendations. There are about 10 really good restaurants in Williamsburg and about 100 others that range from okay to terrible. I wouldn't call Williamsburg a restaurant mecca by any means.

Yes. That's it. It was Powhatan, not Williamsburg. I couldn't remember the name of it.

We went this past June and compared to other Gold Crown/Premiere rated resorts it wasn't as nice, but we still liked it, I would say it was more like a silver in comparison to other gold crowns we have been (Marriott Grande Vista Orlando, Sheraton Vistana Villages Orlando, Marriott's Aruba Surf&Ocean Clubs). I was a little nervous because I read both positive and negative reviews. But, it was pretty good for what we needed. We are family of 4 and had a 2 bdrm. with full kitchen and the unit was clean. It was in a good location for restaurants and tourist attractions. The pool area was fine, not the best we've seen but deffinately not the worst. I believe they had an indoor pool too. We only used the pool once because it was a little crowded when we were there (outdoor pool only). Our unit could have used some updating just in the bathroom, but it wasn't anything to complain about. The only thing that was a real negative, was the sound from guests above or below you. Fortunately we only had to deal with this the last 2-3 days of our trip, but we literally could hear the above guests using their bathroom, not good. We had a good trip and experience there. Have fun!
