Our "best laid plan" is to stay home with our pending sore throat/aches/congestion unless the severity drives us to a doctor. So we'll never be tested, never be counted if we get sick. We absolutely don't want to end up separated unless breathing assistance is needed.

I assume most people will never be counted. Hope you do not get worse symptom and breathing assistance is not needed. Stay safe!

I am so sorry, hope you feel better :-(

I don't see much of this recommendation around, but we have pulsometers on the way (from Amazon). If we start feeling bad, we're going to monitor our temperature and our oxygen level. (Some may suspect I just bought stock in pulsometers).

And to answer your question, will we ever know how many of us contract this? Heck no... In Nebraska today they announced, that due to lack of ability to test, doctors can diagnose COVID-19 based on symptoms :-(

Again, I wish you the very best, hope you feel better soon! Keep us posted (I know you will).

Silly me. This morning at 8:45am my friend texted me if I wanted to go golfing with her. I thought we should golf in 2 golf carts. She was waiting for me in a golf cart when I got to the parking lot. I thought it was rude of me to suggest that I take a second golf cart. Well, there was no 6 ft separation between us. After playing for almost 2 hours, at the turn, between 9th and 10th hole, she said if I wanted to have a second cart for the separation. I said yes. After I got into the 2nd cart, she started sniffling and wiping her nose. She said it was allergies. Now I have to worry for the next 2 weeks.

We never will know the exact number. My guess is it will be many times what is confirmed. I hope someone develops an antibody test for it. I would pay to know if it had it

Not sick, not sick! But I sure analyze every cough (I suspect my newish cholesterol medicine is making me cough like Cliff's did him last fall), throat tickle and headache!

My husband went yesterday and I asked him to please get his own cart. When he asked at the course, they said it was their rule - he would have had to anyways. I told him no hugging either, lol. Anyways, my daughter would probably not approve, but I feel golfing, in your own cart, if you are careful should be okay.

I sure hope you are okay! Sucks to be paranoid all the time about everything (jeez, elbow bumping with my grandkids and my daughter said no more :-( ).

A type of test called serology can be used after the fact to look at who has antibodies (ie previous exposure to & infection with) to the disease. Serology currently does not exist for COVID19 but I’m sure it’s being worked on madly.

The current test is a PCR, looking for genetic material from the virus in the persons body. That test is only positive during infection whereas serologic tests are positive for a period of time (weeks to months to years) afterward.

Reliable extrapolations will be made from the # of confirmed cases found in those tested. 2 weeks ago they projected up to 80% to get the virus in USA and Canada. 70% will feel fine carrying it

Are they kidding??? If this is Nebraska’s approach to dealing with this, Good Luck! Aren’t they setting up drive thru testing sites like most places are?

People, please don’t try to be heros and “suffer” with bearable symptoms at home without testing.

It’s not about the numbers of who will or won’t be counted. It’s about our individual health and well being. Be aware of your health and those loved ones around you. If any of the symptoms associated are present seek medical advice/ attention sooner than later

Good luck and stay healthy!

Here is a graph from the china outbreak of the distribution of days until symptoms show. Looks like you realistically only have to worry for 10 days. So party at your house next Sunday?

To answer the OP question. In a few years this outbreak will be studied well enough to allow for some pretty good modeling around total infections and death rates.

It has been beyond frustrating here. We might have our first drive thru clinic open Monday - if permit issues can be resolved. How unbelievable is that?

To be clear, I am not advocating we self diagnose and not consult medical professionals. But apparently when we do, the advise may be to just self-isolate and monitor without being tested.

Stay healthy all!

Only if you all have been good boys and girls for the 10 days before, you cook for all of us and I will set up tables outdoors at least 6 ft apart for each of us. :D

I was head chef and organizer for 300 once. Do I need to plan for that many. Of course that good part might bite us in the butt.

PS it will be Spaghetti Meatballs and salad like we did for the scouts. Luckily the church we held meetings in had a fantastic industrial kitchen.

Wow. I cannot cook for even 10 people. When we invite friends over, we limit the party to no more than 8. Anything beyond that is mentally draining.

Our kids and grandkids alone total 13, plus our elderly step parents, we are 15 of us at dinner every holiday, and some holidays are with our daughter-in-law's folks and her grandmother too. I am hoping we can get together over Easter, but maybe not.

If I could keep my mother-in-law from being so high-maintenance with her nails and hairdos every week, that would be helpful. She should realize that the Elks' lodge wouldn't close, if it wasn't an emergency, yet she is out there collecting and spreading germs doing her own thing. And today, she had Rick drive her to her hair appointment. I am annoyed by this. She is 91. Stay home, lady!

My mom finally agreed to stay home. Now she has a slight cough. I hope it isn’t too late. Flu and other viruses in addition to the coronavirus is rampart in NYC so hoping it is something else.

I think my DH already had the coronavirus. He had a really bad respiratory infection in February that lasted for 3 weeks. The cough was terrible. We saw a doctor and asked if it could be coronavirus but the doctor said no because he had not been to China. But he works in a tech company and many people travel to China. And now we know the virus was already here in February. I never caught it even though it was highly contagious. If he had it, it will never be counted.

I believe they need to ramp up testing. They really need to try to test as many people as they can ( symptoms or no symptoms) as this will help identifying hot spots of areas with high amounts of community spread. Thus locking down those areas with more stringent measures so as to slow the spread. You really don’t know what your dealing with until you have more numbers. Maybe it is due the shortage of tests and it will ramp up soon with more availability. Just a thought...

We were sick after Maui. We got home 2/24, and 3/1 both of us started a dry cough. I was sick for about 3 days, and the cough hung around for a week. I had a headache, and my back hurt where my lungs are. Rick's chest hurt, not in his back, which was odd. My backache was so bad, I didn't want to sit in our home theater because the leather recliners were too hard on my back. I had a sore throat one day, Rick had a sore throat for a couple of days. I hope it was Corona, so we have some immunity, but I think it was a cold It was different from my usual cold. I didn't have a runny nose or sneeze.

Our grandkids were so sick in January. They kept getting sick, their entire household, and the doc said flu, then our daughter got strep throat and took antibiotics.

Maybe it was, maybe not. It sure sounds like some of the symptoms but then again a bad flu has those symptoms too.

Too bad you will never know as there is still no antibody test available for the coronavirus. They are working on it but I doubt we will be able to get it when they have it unless we are in a test study.

If you like to look at graphs, this is an excellent site to track what's happening in the US.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'd expect the confirmed cases to go up as more people are tested, but what's really scary is the graph of Daily New Deaths in the United States.

Interesting article about how they figured out community spread so quickly in Washington. Alarming the researchers weren't allowed to test further when they wanted to. Perhaps Washington really isn't where it started spreading but rather they just had a leg up identifying their community spread.
