GCMarine emailed me as soon as his MF bill came for SBP, and he is as upset as I am at the increase of a 2 bed four years ago from $680 to $1,100 now. The lockoffs are $1,400, in case you aren't following the Starwood MF thread.

I have seen comments from TUGgers that fees will be up for a few years to update the Plantation units, but when have you ever seen fees come back down?

It's a ridiculous amount of money for a 2 bedroom at Myrtle Beach, considering we own a 3 bedroom lockoff at Presidential Villas near SBP, which is $645 MF's for 2012.

It just goes to show how absolutely rotten Starwood is at managing anything. It will be very unwise for me to keep my SBP, considering the high cost of owning them.

I think they will go down.

As discussed in the thread I link below, the reserve contribution at SBP is far higher than at other SVO resorts. Once the renovation is finished, I would guess it should be more in line with the others which would produce a big reduction.

MFs have dropped at WSJ-VG for 2 years in a row (of course they skyrocketted before this).

I didn't know MF could go down! :D

The main reason i bought a EOY is that my analysis of TS mf's tended to show an average of 10% increase a year and that allowed only the EOY within my 10yr budget plan...Good to see i may have over estimated for 2013! Actually, Great to hear that this *MAYBE* a possibility

I'm smh trying to figure out what you think is inconsistent between my post and the fact that an EOY 2br at SBP had to pay $561 this year.

Since you haven't posted much, I assume you aren't aware that just about everyone on TUG uses the term maintenance fees to include maintenance, reserves and taxes.

In the other thread you quoted a figure which excluded the very large reserve component which is discussed in this thread. Since that isn't consistent with the way Tuggers normally show maintenance, no one could understand where you got your maintenance number.

As discussed in this thread and the one I linked, I think the reserve contribution will eventually drop significantly to a level consistent with the other SVO resorts. That doesn't mean it should be ignored altogether.
