Will my (resale) points ever work like my Marriott purchased points?

Years ago, I purchased a few points within Marriott (2,250 points). I only did it because I wanted to have flexibility of converting my current weeks (purchased resale) into points. IF I ever decided to purchase points (resale), would Marriott credit my total points in determining my status level? Would Marriott require a "fee" to have my external points work like my current points?

As long as you pay the $3 per point fee with a minimum of $3K the resale points will be treated just like direct points.
