My wife's late Brother-in-Law was a WWII Marine who served under "Chesty" Puller on Guadacanal. I had a long talk with him before he died about his experience on Guadacanal - he had very high praises for "Chesty" Puller and said they broke the mold when he was born. He was proud to have served under "Chesty".
